Morning Brew – Tuesday, July 19: Cheryl Cole loves the lesbians on “Corrie,” Shay Mitchell on Maya’s return to “PLL”

Morning!

Shay Mitchell talked with Clever TV about Maya’s return to Pretty Little Liars. Not too many spoilers, just some insight.

Activist Love Dixon’s new book Same Gender Loving and Loving IT: A Guide for Addressing the Unique Issues Experienced by Black Lesbians is now available for purchase on Amazon. Dixon says of the guide:

I don’t focus on the hot topic issues such as the legality of gay marriage, but I look at the personal effects of being a black lesbian in today’s society. I help readers figure out their relationships and how to maintain healthy ones by embracing and loving who they are.

Sacha Parkinson said that Cheryl Cole approached her at a movie screening and told her how much she loved the lesbian storyline on Coronation Street. Read into that what you will.

Sherri Murell is the only openly gay coach of a Division 1 basketball team. She heads up the Portland State University women’s squad, and told The Oregonian how she felt about being the lonely only.

What? You can’t turn your players gay? Then what good are you for our gay agenda?!

In the new book The First Time, author Kate Munro explores virginity and the loss of it. One of the women included loses her virginity to her gym teacher (of course, right?) and then later said she “lost it again” to a man. Munro tells The Frisky:

I pretty much spent the first chapter exploring this idea because people had such creative ways of defining their virginity loss. Is it about innocence? If you’re one of the “everything but” brigade, are you still a virgin? Some people think – and I tend to agree – that oral sex can be more intimate than so called “regular” sex. Defining virginity loss as the moment we have penetrative sex for the first time seems a bit limiting. And as the lesbian woman says, where does that leave gay people? Don’t their non-penetrative experiences count?

Yes. Moving on.

Men of Certain Age has been axed, which means we say goodbye to one more lesbian on TV. We loved you Maria! We just didn’t show it enough!

One show that isn’t having any ratings trouble is Candy Bar Girls. The Channel 5 series received 725,000 viewers in its second episode.
