Morning Brew – Tuesday, July 12: Sarah Waters saw Tilda Swinton as her “Night Watch” star, Vanity Theft’s new video

Happy Tuesday!

We’ve got some great stuff lined up for you today. But first, the Brew!

Over at the Star-Observer, Monique Schafter muses on people mistaking her for a boy, over and over again. This happens to my wife all the time, and she lowers her voice so they don’t realize their mistake and feel bad!

Out musician Carole Pope spoke with the National Post about working with the Hetrick-Martin Institute, and how she wants kids to be OK with their sexual identities.

I don’t think kids in general have issues with it, They’re like “whatever,” you know, and they would experiment sexually. I think once our generation — I don’t know what generation to blame it on — but once that generation dies off [it will be better]. I hope I’m around when it’s a non-issue, but I’m not sure I will be.

Also, if she could pick a person to play her in a movie, she’d want it to be Eva Green. Eva has played a lesbian before, so I’m sure she’d sign up for that!

Sarah Waters told The Telegraph that she is fine with her books being adapted for TV because she doesn’t always have a clear image of what her characters look like in her head.

“In The Night Watch, I always imagined someone like Tilda Swinton playing Kay [who works in the ambulance corps during the Blitz], but Anna [Maxwell Martin] is great. She does some fantastic striding around. She is and she isn’t my Kay. I love her. She’s got a quiet magnetism, which is perfect. Kay is quite silent and gallant and enigmatic, and Anna brings all that to the screen.

Speaking of Tilda, check out her hot new cover of W magazine.

God, I love her.

Degrassi starts up again next Monday, and there are some glimpses of lesbian Fiona in this preview.

Drams!

Vanessa Carlton is keeping a tour diary over at PaperMag.com. So far, she’s met two guys with tattoos dedicated to her. She also spent her “day off” taking pictures with pianos all over NYC.

Vanity Theft has a new video for their track “Trainwreck.”

Seriously can’t wait to see them on The Lady Killer Tour with Hunter Valentine and Sick of Sarah.

Lady Gaga thought the Prime Minister of Australia was a lesbian and told her she needs to get on with marriage equality down under. Pretty sure she still thinks marriage equality is needed, even after finding out the PM is, in fact, straight.

Beverly McClellan might not have won The Voice, but she did write a great song. Here’s a behind-the-scenes video of her working on “Lovesick.”
