Good day, gays and dolls!
Is it just me or did everyone else miss the Zoe Saldana “lesbian rumors”? Apparently people thought she was gay. I mean, there is wishful thinking, but I guess I never thought her hubby was her beard. The Avatar actress told the press that people have been saying she was a lesbian since her youth.
People have sometimes told my grandmother, “Your granddaughter has a bit of lesbianism in her.” It’s that my sisters and I spent all our time among men [growing up]. We were very popular with them. Our way of thinking is very masculine.
Who says that to people’s grandmas? At any rate, Zoe = straight, unless you’re watching After Sex.
This is a rumor I can really get behind! According to The Sun, Kristen Stewart and Carey Mulligan are both vying for the role of bisexual hacker Lisbeth Salander in the American version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
If it has to be remade without Noomi Rapace then I won’t lie and say I wouldn’t love to see KStew give the piercings a go.
It looks like things might be getting better for gay and lesbian storylines in Vietnamese films. An article in the Thanhnie News says that films like 2009′s lesbian-themed Choi Voi didn’t end in tragedy. Said director Bui Thac Chuyen:
The attraction Cam (played by Pham Linh Dan) has for Duyen (Do Hai Yen) is complex, not just lustful: it is at times ardent, at times impuissant.
Now that’s a movie I’d love to see remade for America, if it’s not available with subtitles already.
Today at 2:30 PST, tune in to KCRW (live-streaming at kcrw.com) to listen in on a conversation on homophobia in sports with host Diana Nyad, Training Rules director Dee Mosbacher and Pat Griffin, Professor Emeritus of Social Justice Education at University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a diversity consultant. If you can’t catch it live, there will be a podcast recording available sometime this week.
