Morning Brew – Thursday, October 21: Keira Knightley to romance Rosie, a very lesbian “Alien” prequel

Elisabeth Moss told New York Magazine why she loved hanging out with lesbian Joyce and her friend Abe this season.

What I love about the whole Joyce-Abe thing is that it’s actually her age group. She’s constantly around people that are older, that are of a different generation. Peggy’s a very sort of progressive person, she’s in a new generation of the sixties, and she has a work life, but I’ve never felt like she had a personal life that really matched who she is. And I think that this is her age group, this is who she should be hanging out with, and I think that Joyce is funny and smart and cool. She respects Peggy, but she’s not like super-impressed by what she does. She’s also a young girl who’s a woman in a man’s world, so they have that in common. I feel like Peggy is getting younger.

Finally, a show that illustrates how funny and smart and cool we are! Fingers crossed Joyce returns next season.

Keira Knightley will play the lead — a suspected lesbian — in The Children’s Hour in London’s West End next year. Rumor has it that Rosie O’Donnell might play her object of desire. If you’re not familiar with the play, it’s also a film.

Honestly, I’m happy Keira’s finally ready to commit. She’s played lesbianish roles before, but they were pretty much just a tease.

According to ShadowLocked.com, script details from the Alien prequel hit the net and were asked to be taken down, but not after a few lucky individuals had read the goods. And here’s part of it:

There’s mention of a human and largely lesbian crew who are hard-boiled, including an African-American named ‘Oliver’ (for whom specious rumours abound that Zoe Saldana would be a good fit). Another female character is called ‘Trucks’ (they’re not being subtle with the culture of this crew, are they?), apparently the role with which Gemma Arterton was recently associated.

It’s like they finally realize who loves the Alien movies: gay women!

Ellen DeGeneres continues to expand her empire! She just signed an exclusive multiyear production deal with Warner Bros., which will allow her production company, A Very Good Production, to “develop and produce scripted network shows for Warner Bros TV, cable fare and reality series for Warner Horizon, and syndicated programming for Telepictures Prods.” God, I love power lesbians.

Speaking of Ellen, she wants you to save a Turkey this Thanksgiving. She’s working with Farm Sanctuary for the Adopt-A-Turkey program. Says Ellen:

I’m sorry to break this to you, but it looks like Quinn and Rachel will not be hooking up on Glee. Michael Ausiello writes:

This year’s Out Music Awards will honor several gay women, including Melissa Etheridge (Lifetime Achievement Award), Chely Wright (Vanguard Award), and Paula ‘Sticks’ Hampton (The OUTMusic Living Legend Award). The Awards will happen in NYC on Dec. 1 and be hosted by comedians Julie Goldman and Jonny McGovern.
