Morning Brew – Thursday, Nov. 17: Syd tha Kid on the cover of “Spin,” Kirsten Vangsness on a Garcia-focused “Criminal Minds” ep

Good morning!

Amber Heard kissed a mystery brunette outside a restaurant in Los Angeles and The Daily Mail says they “put on a passionate show.” Creepy paparazzi.

The McGill Daily has a piece on bisexual experience and identity, including the coming out process, the stereotypes and finding acceptance.

TVLine talks with Kirsten Vangsness about a very special Garcia-focused episode on Criminal Minds. Some spoilers included!

Cat Cora and her family attended The Muppets premiere in Los Angeles this week. Adorable.

The group that is Odd Future is on the cover of Spin this month, which means there is a lesbian on the cover of Spin. Syd tha Kid is the sole female member, and tells the magazine:

A lot of people won’t realize unless they meet us that we’re very nice people. We’re all very honest. We realize that the truth is the only way you can go.

She also explains the “Cocaine” video.

I wasn’t even supposed to be in the video until three days before the shoot. I didn’t want to put myself out there like that. Then it just got to the point where I figured, you know what? Some of this stuff is unavoidable, and if I just eliminate some of the wondering about my sexual orientation, then in one way people will leave me alone about it. And in another way, I’ll be able to inspire people.

The magazine calls her “brave” and says she is “the first prominent artist in hip-hop to unequivocally come out.” No mention of Odd Future’s homophobic and misogynistic lyrics, though, which is a missed opportunity on finding out how Syd feels about that kind of “truth.”

The Skinny interviewed out comics Zoe Lyons, Jen Brister and Suzi Ruffell and I enjoy their answers about what is funny about being a lesbian.

Brister: There is nothing funny about an earnest gay woman reading poetry by candlelight dressed in nothing but a waistcoat and a pair of vegan shoes while supping on a bowl of mung bean stew.

Ruffell: I think it sounds like a disease, I prefer a lady gay.

Lyons: The shoes.

The Rumpus has a great interview with Kelebohile Nkhereanye and Renee Boyd, a married lesbian couple who discuss what marriage means to them as lesbians and as Africans.
