Morning Brew – Thursday, July 22: Finally, photos and a premiere date for “Black Swan”

So much to discuss today. Let’s dig in!

We’ve been so patient and it’s finally here: Our first glimpse into Darren Aronofsky‘s Black Swan, which stars Natalie Portman as a ballerina that ends up bedding Mila Kunis. OK the plot is a little more complex, but it’s certainly one of the first things we found out about when the film began production.

USA Today describes the film’s plot:

The dark tale with psychological twists stars Natalie Portman as Nina, a technically brilliant ballerina whose life takes some strange turns after being picked as the lead in a New York City production of Swan Lake. Pressures mount as her overbearing mother (Barbara Hershey) pushes her to succeed and her manipulative dance master (Vincent Cassel) commands her to be more seductive and loose in her performance. Complicating matters is the arrival of Lily (Mila Kunis), a sultry dancer who exhibits all the innate ease and sexuality that Nina lacks. Nina begins to fixate on the newcomer as the two forge an unusual relationship.

Kunis tells the paper:

Anything sexual in this film is not there for the sake of being sexual. I think people are hoping it’s like two girls making out and pillow fighting. It’s not smut.

Black Swan will make its debut at The Venice International Film Festival this fall. Lucky Venice.

Anna Paquin is celebrating her birthday this week, which also happens to be when she’ll be at Comic Con. She was on Chelsea Lately last night talking about her appearance at the geek fest and Chelsea tells her how much she and her lesbian roommates love to watch True Blood.

Anna is also on the cover of this month’s Venice magazine and the interview is an in-depth look inside her career, from The Piano through the casting process for her landing the role of Sookie.

CBS has canceled The Bridge, which means you no longer have to watch to see if the bisexual cop has any more Sapphic tendencies while she hooks up with her male coworker.

A study in the UK says that gay people are “invisible” on the telly. A group called Stonewall has found that “lesbian and gay people appear realistically and positively in just 0.6 per cent of most watched shows.” For some reason, they don’t include Skins, citing only I’m a Celebrity…, Hollyoaks, Emmerdale and How to Look Good Naked as the shows with positive LGBT storylines. Seriously, guys, look into Skins pronto.

Big Brother Africa‘s new season is bringing back some of its favorite past housemates, including bisexual Sheila. Here’s her intro video for the All Stars.

She seems pretty headstrong and smart about the game. Hopefully she won’t leave the house early because of a crush on another housemate or get kicked out first for being a mole.

The Daily Mail reports that “a comprehensive study of female sexuality will be presented to the American Psychological Association’s annual meeting next month,” where the findings include “a surprising growth in the numbers of so-called ‘late-blooming lesbians’ — women who have switched their sexuality once they’ve passed the age of 30.” Lucky for us, they found a woman who is devastated that she hurt her husband and her kids so much by finding a girlfriend at age 30 and other women that “couldn’t stop crying” when they figured out they were gay.

The Guardian has penned a rather long piece on the findings, too, with more focus on sexual fluidity.

Lucy Lawless was on The Kilborn File discussing being in Italy for gay pride. She told Craig Kilborn how sad she was that lesbians weren’t very involved in the big celebration.

OK, what gives Italian lesbians? Lucy Lawless was there and you weren’t out in the streets doing Xena calls? For shame!

Carey Mulligan has confirmed she is no longer in the running to play Lisbeth Salander in the American version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. She told EW:

I can officially quash that rumor once and for all. It’s not going to be me. But I’m excited to see it. I love the books and I think it will be great.

Well that’s one off the list of 1200 actresses rumored.

Also coming to TV: A show about coming out, from Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman. Reports Deadline, “The concept will feature multiple public figures coming out of the closet.” This should be interesting. Can we send in requests? Give the people what they want!

Lastly, someone wanted to say hello to you.

See you tomorrow!
