Morning Brew – Thursday, January 19: A bisexual “Teen Mom,” Lindsey Shaw answers fan questions

Good morning!

One of MTV’s Teen Moms, Kailyn Lowry, could be bisexual, but you’ll more than likely read she’s “secretly a lesbian!!!” Star magazine reports that the young mom “has been in more than one same-sex relationship, before and after giving birth to her now-2-year-old son, Isaac.” Gotta love this kicker from “an inside source”:

They were both seeing guys, [but] would make out and Gigi would sleep in her bed sometimes. … Kail thinks they’ll both end up with a guy, but they’ll always be best friends.

Teenagers!

The Center for American Progress has released a study and action plan for what they feel black members of the LGBT community need more than marriage equality. The lengthy report states that “families headed by black same-sex couples are more likely to raise their children in poverty, black lesbians are more likely to suffer from chronic diseases, and black gay and transgender youth are more likely to end up homeless and living on the streets.” They provide specific things that need to be addressed to help these families, including passing housing antidiscrimination laws and examine domestic violence among same-sex couples.

An out African artist named Zanele Muholi is working to provide safety for lesbians in South Africa. She’s currently working on a documentary about the terrible corrective rapes that happen to gay women and hopes it’ll be ready this year. She tells The New Age:

When you look up “South African black lesbians” on Google, all you get is blood and violence. We need to change this. I’ve had chances to work in mainstream media and make a proper living out of it, but I won’t. Because that is not where my purpose lies.

Zanele sounds like an amazing woman and this documentary is sorely needed.

It appears Caroline will be getting a “hot Asian love interest” on 2 Broke Girls. That doesn’t sound like “Max” to me.

Lesbian-led duo Light Asylum has a cool new video for their song “Skull Fuct.” It’s super dark but I love it.

A straight mom over at The Stir wrote a piece about why lesbians make the best moms. I agree with every point she made!

Lindsey Shaw answers some Pretty Little Liars fan questions in this video. I learned a lot, like you should totally freak out on her if you are a fan.

Out has some love stories in their new issue, which includes artists Mickalene Thomas and Carmen Mcleod and writers T Cooper and Allison. Love is in the air!

On his show the other night, Piers Morgan bonded with Rosie O’Donnell over dumb politicians who make anti-gay comments.
