Morning Brew: Thursday, Feb. 4

Morning!

Fringe fans, lesbian actress Jasika Nicole will be seeing some more screentime next season. EW.com reports that her character Astrid will “shoulder more episodes. Says consulting producer Akiva Goldsman, “One of the things we’re talking about for next season is seeing some more of her life, understanding her more.”

Out writer Ariel Gore has just published the book Bluebird: Women and the New Psychology of Happiness, and she spoke with Time Magazine about what really makes women happy: “All kinds of things. Getting lost in an art project. More sex and less housework. Having a really relaxed moment with our kids or friends or partners. Accomplishment, finishing a project. And the things that made one person happy somebody else wouldn’t notice. Take, for example, what made me happy yesterday. I saw this neighbor of mine walking down the street, and from far away it looked like he was walking a chicken on a leash. It made me really happy, I don’t know why, and of course it turned out it was just a little dog, but by then I was happy anyway because I’d had this funny thought that he was walking a chicken.” That has also made me happy. Thanks, Ariel.

Sarah Silverman told The Advocate that some of her best friends are gay women. “Two of my best friends are lesbians – one from L.A. and one from NYC … I think if either of them imagined me in a sexual way, they’d gag. We’re like sisters. But yeah, I’m pretty much a lesbian in every way other than loving penis. I love Nanci Griffith, Patty Griffin, and Tegan and Sara. I play all sports – I have a b-ball, softball glove, and football in my trunk at all times. Plus anyone would tell you I wear cargo pants daily. When I try to dress up, I look like a tranny.” I’ve seen Silverman dressed up, and this is completely untrue. Look how nicely she cleans up!

If you know a straight man in your life who is always asking for tips on wooing women, hand them a copy of this new book. Dr. Joni Frater and Esther Lastique’s Love Her Right: The Married Man’s Guide to Lesbian Secrets for Great Sex! is available today on Amazon.com, and includes “insights, secrets and techniques, including: How a married man can know what his wife is thinking and how to turn her on” and “how to transform a marriage in as little as 10 minutes a day.” I’m curious if there’s a chapter on Lesbian Bed Death or that’s something we don’t want straight people to know about.

Hailey Wojcik‘s new music video for “Samosa Morning” has a lot of fun stop animation. You might recall that she is making a video for every song on her album Diorama, and this is her second. Next up is the video for “Angerlfish,” which she’s shooting this weekend. Both that track and “Samosa Morning” are “girl-breaking-my-heart songs,” says Hailey. We can always use one of those on our iPods.

I’ll be chatting with Julie Benz about her new role as a gay stripper on Desperate Housewives today, so let me know if you have any questions for the ex-Dexter/Buffy star. Get at me @trishtype or in the comments below.

Have a great Thursday.
