Morning Brew: Thursday, Feb. 24: Boxer Christy Martin comes out of the closet, gets back in the ring

Hi all!

The New York State News has declared Amber Heard the sexiest woman of 2011 and I’m OK with that. Considering it’s only February, she has added pressure to keep sexy for the remaining 10 months.

Nicki Minaj spoke with Blackbook about gossip about her love life, including those pesky “bisexual” rumors including Rihanna.

“I told her we should censor that,” Minaj says of their online correspondence. “But then Rihanna looked at me and we started cracking up. If we could, we would say so much more craziness and just get stuff brewing. We have to foresee what could be taken out of context, sure, but sometimes I don’t mind being taken out of context. It’s great to f–k with media because they f–k with me all the time.”

No word on if she’s still f—ing with Rihanna.

Boxer Christy Martin has come out after some violently wild circumstances. In November, her husband, Jim, allegedly found out about her “lesbian affair” and and shot her, leaving her for dead. Now that he is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Christy is beginning a new life and that includes being out about her relationship with partner Sherry Lusk. The Orlando Sentinel Reports:

She kept the lesbian relationship a secret, fearing repercussions from the macho world of boxing. The reaction has been just the opposite.

“I am comfortable in my own skin,” Martin said. “People can either jump on the Christy Martin bandwagon or jump off. The only thing I would like to say is that there was so much sensationalism in the media that reported that I walked into the house and said, ‘I am leaving you for a woman,’ and then he stabbed me. That’s not how it happened. We had been living separate lives for a long time. I want to make it clear that’s not the way it happened.”

Christy is back with a trainer and working toward her 50th boxing victory, which could happen on her first fight back in the ring March 12. Way to go Christy, the comeback queen!

Last year, New York teachers Alini Brito and Cindy Mauro were fired for having a “lesbian affair.” Now the women are taking legal action, suing for wrongful termination, libel and slander. According to their lawyer, “They’ve had to deal with these false allegations of engaging in lesbian sex. It’s been painful.” The shame, the horror! Being engaged in lesbian sex? Not embarrassing. Doing it with a fellow teacher in the janitor’s closet and getting caught by said janitor? That’s painful.

What’s it like to be gay at Harvard? Their school newspaper, The Crimson, says it’s a little complicated but it’s getting better.

Brittany and Santana have made it to the top eight in E!’s Top TV Couple poll. They’re the only female pairing, and are currently up against two people from One Tree Hill, which is, apparently, still on air.

Elyse Driskill and Brittany Hill on Vanity Theft sat down with Out to discuss how they got together and other fun things.

No More Down Low took their cameras backstage at the Butch Voices Fashion Show a few months back. V.I.P!

Let’s end this with some gratuitous new promo shots of Shay Mitchell as Emily in Pretty Little Liars.
