Morning Brew: Thursday, April 15

Hey guys — it’s Tax Day! Are you psyched?

We’ll start with the sad news. Melissa Etheridge and Tammy Lynn Michaels have officially split up. On her blog, Tammy Lynn simply wrote:

“Tammy and Melissa are saddened to announce that they are separated.”

She was quoting the official statement from Melissa’s rep, who told E! that they’d like “consideration and respect for their family,” which includes four children together. They had been together for nine years. It’s unfortunate, but celebrities — they’re just like us.

A new book called Spoon Fed: How Eight Cooks Saved My Life will appeal to foodies, anyone who likes memoirs, and lesbians of all kinds. Author and NY Times food writer Kim Severson penned the book about coming out as a lesbian and dealing with an alcohol addiction, among other things, and how she was inspired by Alice Waters and Rachael Ray. It just came to me in the mail and I can’t wait to read it, but I might need some gourmet meals on hand to make it through.

Queen Latifah is producing a new series for BET called Let’s Stay Together, which “takes a look at relationship challenges of five young, aspirational African-Americans.” Should we start a letter campaign right now? “Make one a lesbian!”

Speaking of Latifah, she’ll be emceeing part of the annual American Idol Gives Back special on Fox on April 21. In related news, Michelle Rodriguez will be DJing at the GO Magazine Nightlife Awards in NYC on April 20. Ready to play a game of “spot the subtext?”

Look who we have on women’s health magazine covers this month. A sign of more gay things to come? I sure hope so! At least both promise great abs.

See you on Friday!
