Morning Brew – Thurs. June 21: Frenchie Davis on dating a woman, “EW” features celebs coming out
Good morning!
Coming out is a hot topic this week, as Entertainment Weekly has a cover story about it and the New York Observer wrote an article that kind of outs Chace Crawford while simultaneously talking about outing. I’m glad it’s being talked about on a more mainstream level, but I prefer EW‘s way of writing about it (“The current vibe for discussing one’s sexuality is almost defiantly mellow: This is part of who I am, I don’t consider it a big deal or a crisis, and if you do, that’s not my problem.”) as opposed to the Observer‘s (“Living in the so-called “glass closet,” they can forestall the legitimate press inquiring after their home life while also ensuring that their orientation is hardly breaking news. It’s being basically out, without having to answer any questions.)
Here’s an example of one such “coming out”: The Voice‘s Frenchie Davis. The singer told St. Louis Today she’s been dating a woman for the last year.
I wasn’t out before the relationship, but I wasn’t in. I dated men and women, though lesbians weren’t feeling the bisexual thing. Now I’m in love with a woman I think I can be with forever.
Frenchie is performing at Gay Prides around the U.S. this summer and she’s about to release a new single, “Love’s Got a Hold on Me.” I wonder if it’s about her GF.
Doctor Who fans will have another reason to love the show when it returns: Madame Vastra is going to be crushing Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman)! Will Clara return those feelings? I can’t decide if I think they are a cute couple or not.
