Morning Brew – Thurs. June 14: Kristina Maria’s Sapphic sauna music video, director Lynn Shelton on sexuality

Morning!

Canadian singer Kristina Maria is getting super sweaty with some women in her video for “Animal.” I never thought I’d see a sauna dance party.

When I’m that hot, I do not want anyone rubbing all over me, I don’t care how sexy they are.

Out actress Kirsten Vangsness talked with Digital Spy about the new season of Criminal Minds while at the Monte Carlo Television Festival this week.

Your Sister’s Sister opens in select theaters tomorrow and director Lynn Shelton was on Fresh Air yesterday discussing the film and her own sexuality. Her movies are super queer so it was relevant! Here’s what Lynn said:

I’m married, so I’m in a straight relationship and have been for decades, so it’s not like I’m an active bisexual. But I’ve fallen for all stripes of human beings in this world. I’ve fallen for straight men, I’ve fallen for gay men, I’ve fallen for straight women and gay women. I really have. I had crushes on really every single kind of person in the world. So there was this period of time in my life when I had this sort of romantic idea that everybody was like that, that we’re all human beings and that a person is a person and if there weren’t these sort of societal ideas about gender and sexual orientation, that anybody could fall in love with anybody. Making Humpday was really the experience that showed me that that is not true – that some people really, truly are straight. There’s a spectrum, and some people are really at one or the other.”

This is only one reason why she’s one of my new favorite directors. I can’t wait to see Your Sister’s Sister.

Batwoman Volume 1: Hydrology came out yesterday. Are you gonna score a copy? Maybe you’re one step ahead of me and already have.

The Oxford American interviewed comic artist Paige Braddock about her work and what she hopes her readers get from it:

I think my work makes people feel better. I had two different fans (one man, one woman) who both e-mailed me recently to tell me that they keep a copy of the Jane’s World book on their night stand, and when they wake up in the night and are scared or if they just don’t feel good at the end of the day, they read Jane’s World, and it makes them feel better. That’s really all an artist or writer can hope for. That kind of feedback makes me feel like what I’m doing matters.

I always feel good when I read Jane’s World because Jane is always involved in some drama that I’m glad to not be a part of!
