Morning Brew – Tegan and Sara win big at the Junos

Good morning!

Tegan and Sara had a great night at the Junos (aka the Canadian Grammys). The sister duo took home Pop Album of the Year, Single of the Year and Group of the Year. The best part was in their acceptance speech:

“When we asked our parents if we could play music instead of go to university, they were really mad at us,” said Tegan, 33. “And they agreed to let us do that for a couple years, and somewhere in all of that, we signed a record deal with Neil Young and Elliot Roberts. And Elliot Roberts told us that when we were in our 30s, we’d write good music but that our 20s were for exploring the world and experiencing heartbreak.

“And we are absolutely in our 30s. So I want to say thanks to everyone who has supported us from the time we were teenagers. I don’t think very many people, certainly not us, thought two queer kids from northeast Calgary would get to here. And here we are. So thank you very much to each and everyone of you, thank you very much.”

They recently spoke on Strombo Home Session about Ellen Page’s coming out, and their own.

Congrats to them, and I am looking forward to seeing them this Saturday at The Dinah!

Speaking of, another Dinah performer had cameras following her around for a A Day In the Life. Ms. Mary Lambert.

TVLine has a bit of intel on Emily’s storyline for Season 5 on Pretty Little Liars.

Early in Season 5, we’ll meet the potentially recurring character of Sydney, a new member of the high school swim team. Speculation here at the office has her either A) sharing a connection to either Emily’s ex, Paige or B) forging a “connection” with Ems herself!
She may not have won Dancing with the Stars, but The L.A. Sports Council awarded Diana Nyad the Athlete of the Year award from the LA Sports Council.

Ebony has a cool piece on Skye’s the Limit, a queer black web series. So rad they are being inclusive.

Model Miranda Kerr tells GQ she might not be so straight.

“I appreciate both men and women. I want to explore. Never say never.”

She recently became single after a split from beau Orlando Bloom. Now’s your chance, ladies!

Comedian Sara Barron has a new memoirish type book where she details how she thought she was a lesbian (wanted to be) but it apparently didn’t work out. She thought being gay would make her cool. (IT DID. IT DOES. YOUR MEMBERSHIP IS REVOKED.) Just kidding, I don’t have that power. Only Ellen does.

Chloe Bennett is a Skimmons shipper!

“As like BFFLs – as BFFs for life – obviously Skimmons is at the top of my priority list. I’m obsessed with Skye and I’m obsessed with Chloe. Yeah, Skye and Simmons could get together. Why not Here’s the thing. I think Ward and Skye are soulmates. As a fan of the show, I do ship the relationship. I think they’re very cute.”
Thanks for the tip Colette!

Heather Peace was on BBC One this weekend to talk about the legalization of equal marriage in the UK.
