Morning Brew: Same-Sex Marriage is a go in Minnesota and Rhode Island!

Good morning, Brewbies! As of 12:01 this morning, same-sex marriage is now officially legal in Rhode Island and Minnesota! Gay couples started getting themselves hitched right after midnight in the North Star State. The Mall of America hosted a giant marriage equality event and Minneapolis mayor R.T. Rybak began performing ceremonies at city hall as well. Star Tribune reporter Eric Roper was on hand at city hall, covering the event live on Twitter as Margaret Miles and Cathy ten Broeke became the first lesbian couple to say “I do.” Rhode Island will begin performing same-sex ceremonies this morning.

Grey’s Anatomy kicked off filming its tenth season this week and writer Dan Bucatinsky apparently tweeted a Calzona pic from set. I say “apparently” because fandom tells me this is them, but I’ve never been any good at fun house mirror stuff. (Do you really see Sara Ramirez and Jessica Capshaw there?) I guess we could ask Sara Ramirez since she’s officially on Twitter now!

By the way, Shonda Rhimes has revealed the season 10 premiere is titled “Seal Our Fate,” which isn’t ominous or anything.

ABC Family dropped a dozen photos last night of the upcoming Pretty Little Liars episode “The Hoe is Going Down” and holy lord Lindsey Shaw. Paige’s belt buckle, though. Paige’s belt buckle.

Sarah Michelle Gellar says there could one day be a Buffy movie. (But then in the same breath she says, “Yeah, but probably not.”)

I’m honoured that I get to help in the battle to bring things to an equal position. We live in 2013, and in a Western society. We need equality for everybody. If one group of people can’t be treated equally, then no one is being treated equally in my mind. I very much feel like Alyson and I really got to knock on the glass ceiling, and say “Screw you glass ceiling, we are going to knock you down.” Just in the last 10 years, there has been such a leap forward. And I feel like we were helpful, we weren’t just making television, we were doing social commentary. It opened the door. It brought it into the mainstream and said it’s okay to be who you are. It doesn’t matter who you fall in love with. If you find someone to fall in love with, you are just lucky.
