Morning Brew: Rosie is on the mend after a heart attack, “Glee” may get its spin-off after all

Good morning, Brewbies!

I’m glad you’re here!

After Lea Michele tweeted a photo of herself and Chris Colfer reunited at last on the New York set of Glee, Vulture visited the set to see if the Kurt and Rachel Show is really turning into the long-fabled spin-off Ryan Murphy has been teasing since like 1998. Their verdict: Yeah, probably. And apparently things are a lot racier in a 9:00 timeslot outside of Ohio. The article mentions a lot of humping and grinding and hands headed “downtown” during Rachel’s performance of “Oops! I Did It Again.” It’s Glee all grown/raunched-up.

Elsewhere in Lima: “When we wandered back to Brittany’s bedroom in Ohio, the track for Spears’s super sad break-up song “Everytime” kicked in. There was Heather Morris lying face-down on her bed, miserable without Santana, who’s far away and cheerleading for the University of Louisville.”

But which show will Santana be on, is what I want to know. The New York one or the Lima one. It’d better be one of them, and I mean a lot of one of them.

We’re sending good vibes to Rosie O’Donnell who revealed yesterday that she had a heart attack a week ago. On her blog, she wrote:

i did not call 911
50% of women having heart attacks never call 911
200,000 women die of heart attacks
every year in the US

by some miracle i was not one of them
the next day i went to a cardiologist
the dr did an EKG and sent me to the hospital
where a stent was put in

my LAD was 99% blocked
they call this type of heart attack
the Widow maker
i am lucky to be here

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Ro!

Another day, another group of people hollering that SpongeBob HomoPants is corrupting an entire generation of children. The Daily Mail reports that a conservative organization in Ukraine has watched hours and hours of SpongeBob cartoons and come to the conclusion that he is as queer a pineapple under the sea. Their evidence? He holds hands a lot with his best friend Patrick Star, and also his boating school teacher is named Ms. Puff. An obvious shout out to the British slang term for a gay dude, as opposed to a shoutout to the fact that Ms. Puff is a pufferfish.

Anyway, the National Expert Commission for Protecting Public Morality wants to ban SpongeBob, which, frankly, is about as likely as Mr. Krabs sharing his Krabby Patty recipe with Plankton.

Thanks to AfterEllen reader Beth, we’ve learned that Survivor will feature a lesbian contestant this season. Dana is a gay gal from Arkansas and she is adorable. (I’m not just saying that because her southern drawl sounds remarkably like mine!)

She’ll be joined on the island by good ol’ Blair from The Facts of Life. Sadly, Blair isn’t so gay-friendly, even though she was part of one of the greatest subtext couples of all time. In recent years, Lisa Whelchel (Blair!) has become quite the outspoken Christian advocate and has gone on record as saying that gay people can be “cured” if they try hard enough. Hopefully her opinion has changed or she’s learned to keep her trap shut.

And speaking of “curing” gayness, OWN will be airing Lisa Ling‘s documentary Pray Away the Gay tonight at 9:00 p.m. Ling will follow-up after the interview with Exodus International leader Alan Chambers who says that his organization has stopped trying to use reparative therapy, in large part because of what they saw after watching the documentary. TheLinster will have a full recap of the show tomorrow.
