Morning Brew – Monday, October 11: Your chance to own an Ellen doll, a look at Batwoman on “DC Universe Online”

Happy National Coming Out Day!

The Talk starts next week, and CBS has a new preview.

Executive producer Brad Bessey told The Hollywood Reporter:

I want this show to empower women. I want this to be a host-driven show, where guests and the audience can have open and honest conversations with the show’s co-hosts.

Mr. Bessey, I am as hopeful as you are!

Jamie Lauren has taken over as chef of a Venice gastro-pub called Beechwood. Grubstreet LA writes: “Jamie is also inviting people to come in and say hi, including a Tweeted invitation to former Chef-testant Hosea Rosenberg. No word yet on what her Stefan Richter policy will be.”

Have you always wanted your own Ellen doll? This might not be the one you’d like to have on your nightstand.

Maybe this adorable picture of Ellen and Portia will make you feel better.

In comics news, here’s a glimpse of a new Batwoman cover. (Thanks scorpio54!)

And DC Entertainment is giving you the opportunity to play Batwoman on their upcoming MMORPG game, DC Universe Online. Here’s a look, as first revealed at New York Comic Con this weekend:

Also, there are more Dollhouse comics on the way!

Carrie Brownstein has so many projects in the works — from her IFC show Portlandia to new band Wild Flag— that she no longer has time to keep up with blogging for NPR. She writes in her final post:

If you’re wondering what else I do, well, I hang out with my dog, watch Mad Men, try in vain to find a sofa, and drive my car to and from the mechanic. Also, I have friends.

I will surely follow along with her new projects but, dang, I’ll miss her writing!

Best-selling lesbian author Emma Donoghue talked with The Independent about getting pregnant with her partner. It’s a great piece on the process of selecting a sperm donor. She joked:

“If, when our son is 18 and our daughter 14, they want to meet him, that’s grand. He’s no threat to us, and I feel only gratitude to him. Of course, if he turns out to be Mark Ruffalo in The Kids Are Alright, I will have to have a wild affair with him!”

I love her sense of humor.

Cynthia Nixon will make her first appearance on The Big C tonight. Here’s a clip:

And if you’re interested in any spoilers on what her character will be up to on the show, fancast.com has the scoop.

French film Villa Amalia is now available on DVD and features a brief love scene between two women — very brief.

On TV today: Jane Lynch on iCarly (Nick 7:30 p.m.) and re-runs of lesbian-themed Still Standing (ABC Family 12 p.m.), 10 Grand in Your Hand (DIY 5 p.m.). Also the 1990 Ellen DeGeneres stand-up comedy special One Night Stand (HBO Comedy), That Time of the Month (Logo Mon/Tue 4 a.m.), The Rachel Maddow Show (MSNBC 9 p.m. and midnight) and Cynthia Nixon on The Big C (Showtime 10:30 p.m.). (Thanks Roni!)
