Morning Brew – Monday, Nov. 14: “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” stumble upon Lesbian Pride, Amber Heard in “In Touch”

Morning!

I’m super psyched to go see Austra tonight. I also saw Wild Flag last weekend and they are so good live. Check both bands out if they come through your town!

A columnist at The Quietus shoots down the ever-persistent theory that feminism is “lesbian propaganda.” It’s all rolled up into a topic of misogyny in dance music which, you know, has just as much as any other genre! It’s a great read.

Amber Heard is the target of the tabloids now that she’s been spending a lot of time with The Rum Diary co-star Johnny Depp. This week’s In Touch Weekly has her on the cover with a rather disturbing headline. (Why is she the one getting “too close”?)

Inside the magazine, they quoted an anonymous source that said they were “flirting” while promoting the movie in London.

Johnny immediately greeted her, leaning in to kiss her cheek and whisper in her ear. She laughed and rubbed his back. They were definitely flirting! Amber has been saying that she and Johnny had really intense chemistry. The set was wild. She is a very sexual person. She is beautiful, and she knows it..

Well it looks like they have all the proof we need! Please note the sarcasm. It is strong. I guess you know you’ve made it when the straight rumors start!

Apparently Velma from Scooby Doo is rumored to be gay. That would make a lot of sense for me and my childhood.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta went down to Miami to find some men and ended up at Lesbian Pride and NeNe demonstrated her naivete yet again.

WTF is “Lesbian Pride”? Do they mean Aqua Girl? SweetHeat?

Remember Dani Shay from America’s Got Talent/YouTube? She wants to be on The Glee Project and I think she should. Watch her video and vote for her here!

Out BBC newsreader Jane Hill is a giver! She talked with Financial Times about why it’s so important for her to donate money to Stonewall and Parkinson’s UK. When asked if it’s still imperative to support gay organizations like Stonewall she said:

Hugely. The legislative stuff — civil partnerships, prejudice protection — is very strong now, largely thanks to Stonewall, but I still think it’s about hearts and minds. It never ceases to amaze me that there’s still such a huge amount of playground bullying based on sexuality. Children still say very commonly: “That’s so gay”. You wouldn’t let a child say: “That’s so black, or that’s so Jewish”. That sort of terminology has to be stopped.

Did you know Ellen is in Breaking Dawn? I had no clue.

I wish this were real!

I was very happy to read the transcript of this interview with Fat Joe over the weekend. The rapper spoke openly about how there are definitely gay rappers in hip-hop and that everyone has a gay person in their family. (Girls, too!) He told an interviewer:

I think it’s 2011 going on 2012. I think if you’re gay. Rep your set.

I’m repping hard, Fat Joe!
