Morning Brew – Monday, March 14: Vanessa Hudgens sparks lesbian rumors with Alexa Nikolas kiss

Monday, Monday, Monday!

There’s nothing like a Disney star gone lesbian to get people all riled up. Vanessa Hudgens was photographed kissing Nickelodeon actress Alexa Nikolas, so obviously she’s gay or an attention w—e.

The picture looks like some sort of web cam performance, so maybe they were just having fun on ChatRoulette.

This dude over at DrJays.com has written a piece called “I Like Women Who Like Women – Do You?” I am not sure if this is satire or not. Please help me out. It begins:

Ladies, I know you’ve heard it in songs from T.I. saying “I like women who like women” to Usher’s song “Lil Freak” where the underlying theme is a threesome, but the question is-do men really want this? Simply put, f–k yes! I personally am not sure if I could have a relationship with a woman that’s not genuinely bisexual. Why? Several reasons come to mind but the primary reason is because these days, normal relationships don’t work, don’t last, and the vast majority of men cheat on their long-term girlfriends and wives.

This is like The Onion, right? It’s a joke?

Fox News commentator Todd Starnes reads AfterEllen.com, but only because he wanted to find some dirt on Sarah Silverman. He Tweeted a link to our 2007 piece on the comedian:

Even though I’m sure his readers read it for the wrong reason, there was a lot of right-wing people reading that four year old article on why Sarah Silverman is so awesome on AfterEllen.com. Hopefully they learned something!

Nick Thune is the most recent cast addition to NBC’s I Hate That I Love You. He will play Brad, the straight dude whose lesbian BFF Allie (yet to be cast) will meet his gf’s lesbian BFF Sarah (Anna Camp) and then fall in love.

Trinity University professor David Rando has penned a new book called Modernist Fiction and News: Representing Experience in the Early Twentieth Century. Gertrude Stein is part of his book, and he recently explained in a Women’s History Month lecture that, even though they are veiled, she really did write lines about her partner, Alice B. Toklas. And in biographies that ignore the fact they were together are part of what he calls “a lesbian lie.”

I mean, really – who didn’t know the two of them were together? Gertie wrote a book about Alice. That’s romance.

Ian Hamilton’s debut novel The Water Rat of Wanchai follows Ava Lee, a lesbian Chinese-Candian woman with a martial-arts background and a specialty in forensics. The Winnipeg Free Press writes Ava will give Lisbeth Salander a run for her money in the kick ass gay women department. Hopefully a movie adaptation can’t be far behind.
