Morning Brew – Monday, June 24: “Freeheld” role being offered to Academy Award-winning actress, Anna Paquin on the “True Blood” porn

Happy Monday! Thanks to Heather Hogan for Brewing for me last Friday.

Kristene Chapa is having a difficult time moving past her being shot in the head while her girlfriend was killed last year in Texas. She told a reporter, “‘There are still times where I find myself scared, wondering if they’re going to come after me. I’m always looking around, seeing if I recognize anyone. … Every day I think about her. I pray for her, just for her to watch over me.” Thinking of you Kristene!

A lesbian couple in Philadelphia will be the first in 300 years to get married in the Quaker church.

Meanwhile in Washington state, lesbians are getting married way more often than gay men. OPB reports that “just one male couple married in Clark County for every two lesbian couples that tied the knot.” Hopefully this will not be reflected in the divorce rate as well.

Last night on Breaking Amish, an ex-Amish girl named Kate went on a date with a woman. Despite kissing and flirting with her, Kate maintained she is not a lesbian. Everyone starts out a little bi first, Kate. It’s OK.

The Frisky has two very queer pieces this week in its Girl Talk Section: “Why I’m an Out and Proud Bisexual” and “I’m a Lesbian Mom.” One of these might just be up your alley.

The San Francisco Human Services Agency asked the homeless people of San Francisco about their sexual orientations for the first time during a survey and one third of the city’s homeless population identified as LGB or T. Incredible and tragic at the same time.

Another problem our community is having: Gay foster kids are being discriminated against. This is not OK!

Congrats to Katie Short and Kimberly Kidwell, who were married in front of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas over the weekend. I can’t imagine there was a lot of great scenery, but it’s surely one to remember.

Consider the source here, of course, but actress Zoe Kravitz is bisexual, supposedly, and that’s why Penn Badgley broke up with her. Sounds illogical to me. Star writes:

All of Zoe’s friends know she is into women too. Penn just couldn’t wrap his head around it, and it became a real issue for them.

I’d really like to give Penn Badgley enough credit that he could figure out what bisexual means and what it has to do with his girlfriend without them having to split up.

Ellen Page answered some Reddit questions from fans and answered one about the making of Freeheld with this great tidbit:

I hope to make Freeheld in the spring of 2014 there is an offer going out to an Academy Award Nominated actress next week to play Laurel.

Any guesses? Laurel is the one in front in the picture above. Ellen will be playing her partner Stacey.

Anna Paquin talked about her bitchy resting face on Jimmy Kimmel Live and also that she knows about the True Blood porn parody.

Chicago Fire is coming back to NBC on Tuesday, September 24 while Jillian Michaels will return on The Biggest Loser on Tuesday, October 8.
