Morning Brew – Monday, January 9: “Glee” isn’t getting a spin-off, Charles Barkley isn’t a convincing lesbian

Happy Monday, Brewbies!

It was some kind of weekend at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. During the Fox entertainment panel, president Kevin Reilley gave a definitive answer about the long-rumored Glee spin-off: “No spin-off. Characters graduating. Cool season next year.”

Wow — thanks, Kev! That really answered all our questions! When pressed, he said that creatively they want the graduating characters — Santana, Rachel, Finn, and Kurt — to come back, but that he’ll need to “look at the contractual situation for all of those [actors].” So, yeah. Clear as mud. Just like every time Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck talked about it over the summer.

Lea Michele seems optimistic, though.

Speaking of Lea Michele, she and Naya Rivera and Heather Morris and Dianna Agron and Sarah Paulson and my wife Connie Britton recently posed for a horror-themed Elle photoshoot. This behind the scenes video is pretty frikkin awesome, especially all the parts where my wife Connie Britton says adorable words and lets us look at her adorable face. (Careful with your speaker volume if you’re at work; there’s a lot of screaming.)

I think my favorite part is when Sarah Paulson says she’s terrified of Herman Cain.

Another interesting reveal from TCA is that a Party Down movie is definitely in the works. Megan Mullally says that she and the rest of the original cast — with the exception of maybe Jane Lynch — are all on board, with filming scheduled to start later this summer. If a Party Down movie and an Arrested Development movie happen in the same year, I’m just going to assume God has decided to answer all of my prayers.

America’s favorite drag queen RuPaul stopped by New Hampshire’s Red Arrow Diner over the weekend to remind people that he is not Ron Paul and is not, therefore, running for president. He did, however, remind patrons that he has plenty in common with America’s founding fathers: “Remember, this country was founded by a bunch of men wearing wigs!” (Don’t forget: A new season of Drag Race lands on Logo on January 30th!)

Also in drag over the weekend was Charles Barkley whose Saturday Night Live hosting gig featured a skit of him coming out as a lesbian.

Verdict: Not offensive. Also: Not funny.

Here’s a thing you won’t hear me say very often. Actually, I’ve never said it before in my life. Deep breath. OK, here goes. Hem hem. Well done, Fox News. On Friday, the notoriously ludicrous news network posted an op-ed piece on their website called “My Lesbian Daughter, the Bible and Sex” and it is so very pro-gay:

My world was rocked to its core the night my 37-year old daughter called to tell me she is gay. Did I run out to find a gay parade to march in? No. It was a painful process for both of us. In my beating on Heaven’s door, telling God He had to change her, He instead changed me. It seems that He was far more disturbed about my lack of love than He was about her homosexuality. I have had to rethink many things since starting this journey, including some things I knew (or thought I knew) about the Bible.

The whole article is worth a read.
