Morning Brew – Monday, January 24: “Degrassi” gets more queer, a new lesbian-themed film called “Mountains” hits Norway

So much to chat about. Let’s get into it!

My Idiot Brother premiered at Sundance over the weekend and its lesbian couple was in attendance. More accurately, the women who play the film’s lesbian couple was in attendance. Rashida Jones and Zooey Deschanel were in Park City to promote the movie, which was picked up by The Weinstein Company, who will see its theatrical release.

On the third episode of Showtime’s Episodes, Joey Matt LeBlanc made a whole lot of “lesbian” jokes. As I told you last year, the show is about the making of a show, and Matt LeBlanc plays himself, starring in this new fictional show. (Still with me?) On this fictional show, he stars opposite Micera Monroe, who is a lesbian — until Matt convinces the writers it doesn’t make sense. He tells the writers that fans of the new show will be “banging their heads on the table, saying, ‘How many times the guy hit on the dyke?'” Yeah, I’m not sure which is worse — a show where the guy won’t stop sexually harassing a lesbian, or a show that turns the lesbian into a straight woman.

The new issue of Elle magazine celebrates women in television, which is something we love to celebrate. Here’s their behind-the-scenes video interview with Anna Paquin.

Anna loves slasher movies? I’m pretty sure this means we’re in love now.

Are you a fan of Paz de la Huerta? She’s certainly a very sexually free actress on screen and off. In fact, she kind of reminds me of Frida Kahlo in some ways, especially in this latest gender-bending O magazine spread.

God-des and She premiered their new music video, “Love Machine,” in Tucson over the weekend. It’s not available on the web yet, but here are a few shots they’ve released from set.

Norwegian director Ole Giaever debuted his lesbian-themed film Mountains at the Tromsø International Film Festival in Norway this last weekend. Here’s a translated description of the film:

Nora and Solveig is back in the mountains where two years ago experienced something very traumatic together. Instead of sharing and being present in the bad along with Solveig, Nora has closed for her and kept it at bay. Solveig has therefore taken the initiative for this trip, so they can get to the bottom of what happened and face the future together.

Here’s the trailer:

Not so much the lesbian Brokeback Mountain, but it looks just as good. (Thanks KingPing!)

Love is All You Need is a documentary about teen suicide and is readying to play at film festivals all over. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the film.

If you watch Degrassi, you probably know that FTM teen Adam is dating Fiona, But it looks like there might be some troubles between them, as Fiona might be more interested in women.

The show returns to Teen Nick on Feb. 11.
