Morning Brew: Monday, Feb. 8

I hope you all had a great weekend and not too many party snacks.

Good news, La Roux fans: Elly Jackson recently told the press that she doesn’t want a label, but she finds both women and men sexy. “I can appreciate other women. Beyonce is beautiful. But I find men or women sexy. The Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal is hot and I’ve always fancied James Dean — but weirdly, I want to look like the people I fancy. I don’t have a sexuality. I don’t feel like I’m female or male. I don’t belong to the gay or straight society, if there is such a thing. I feel like I’m capable of falling in love with other people. I’m not saying I’m bisexual, I’m just sexual!” Fine with me, Elly. Call me if Beyonce isn’t available.

In other awesome news, Julie Benz has been asked to stay on Wisteria Lane longer than her original three episode arc. So we officially have another reoccurring lesbian character on network television? Just how long is “undetermined,” but I still want to give Marc Cherry a hug — especially after reading Dana Delany telling EW.com that she does “more than just kiss” Julie. “We’re taking things to the next level,” she said. “I get to do it. I’m very honored.” I am honored to be able to watch this relationship unfold. Also, it’s about time.

Next month, another lesbian will be on TV for an undetermined amount of time. Carol Leifer is a contestant on The Celebrity Apprentice, and she recently did an interview where she said she was most impressed by castmate Bret Michaels, hints that she inspired Ellen to go vegan and why she bought Michael Vick‘s handwritten apology from his dog-fighting trial. What she says is true: “Lesbians are really known for being animal lovers. Gay women always have so many pets.” Two pugs, two cats over here.

Check out this Valentine’s Day ad from Armani Exchange and then tell me if you think the women are really gay. Just wondering. Doesn’t make it any less sexy.

Legendary performer Josephine Baker‘s adopted gay son has put together an exhibit of her “forgotten years” at the World Erotic Art Museum on South Beach. One of the things covered was her secret lesbian life. Said her son: She was “looking for tenderness that only another woman could show her.”

One of our readers from Mexico has the inside scoop on a new TV series that will have a prominent lesbian character. Las Aparicio will begin production in March and the character of Mariana (Erendira Ibarra) is an out lesbian who will be in “every episode.” Mariana is “a self-secure, confident, intelligent and witty aspiring actress who makes a her living as a chef for a small catering business she runs with [best friend] Julia.” She’s going to have a “major romance” and there will be some “very hot, hot scenes.” I’m all for that kind of visibility.

Rachel Maddow doesn’t want to get married. She told USA Today, “We live in the state [Massachusetts] where the right has existed for the longest, and we have not made a decision to get married. This spring, we will have been together for 11 years, and our relationship is serious and happy, mature, monogamous. We like having the right, and we think that everybody should have the right, but we’re making our own decision about whether we should exercise it.” Also: no kids.

Venice fans will love the latest NOH8 photo:

Also, it’s quite likely you’ve already seen it since you probably follow Crystal Chappell on Twitter. If not, I sometimes doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion Otalia.

That’s a lot to brew over. Check back tomorrow for more fun lesbian bits.
