Morning Brew – Mon. June 4: Queen Latifah didn’t come out, Vanessa Redgrave to play a lesbian on “Political Animals”

Good morning!

After Queen Latifah performed at Long Beach Pride, there were tons of articles on the internet saying the actress/singer had come out. They decided her saying that the gay crowd was “her people” was enough of a coming out, but the Queen told EW.com it’s just not the case.

That definitely wasn’t the case. I’ve never dealt with the question of my personal life in public. It’s just not gonna happen. I know that the most important thing and the only thing I have to give is love. When people are going through hatred and bullying, the biggest thing to fight that is love. So that’s all I encouraged my audience to do that night: to share their light and share their love. Period.

So basically we shouldn’t be holding our collective breath.

Academy Award-winning actress Vanessa Redgrave will appear on USA’s upcoming series Political Animals as the first lesbian to be appointed to the Supreme Court. She’ll play a mentor to the show’s star, Sigourney Weaver, who plays Secretary of State Elaine Barrish. The show kicks off on July 15. First Diana on White Collar and now this? USA! USA!

Jenna Dewan may be married to Channing Tatum, but she’s got a crush on Carrie Underwood. I have a feeling Channing doesn’t mind.

Check out the clip from tonight’s episode of Secret Life of the American Teenager where Amy wants to ask her mom (Molly Ringwald) about the gay rumors she’s hearing at school.

Rosemarie DeWitt plays Emily Blunt’s lesbian sister in Your Sister’s Sister, but Rachel Weisz was originally going to play the role. She had to drop out over a scheduling conflict. Rachel, there will be another chance for you to play gay and I will support you.
