Morning Brew – Lily Loveless plays gay again in “Fear of Water”

Happy Friday! Here’s Tatiana Maslany on the set of Parks & Recreation.

Great news Skins fans! Lily Loveless is one half of a friendship-turned-more in Kate Lane’s Fear of Water. The director said she based on the film on her own coming out experience:
“I wanted to tell my story of when I came out as a Lesbian. I always felt different growing up but was afraid to admit to who I was until that infamous summer…I think I was about 16. As soon as I admitted to myself and to others it was an amazing feeling of freedom I had never experienced… a breaking free of sorts!”

Lily plays Alexia and Chloe Partridge is Eleanor. The film is readying for coming out in 2014 and you can keep up with photos and updates on Fear of Water‘s Facebook page. (Thanks MM!)

Lana Del Ray and her “Summertime Sadness” video co-star Jaime King are really close.

Time magazine praises The Bridge, calling it “the anti-The Killing.” I’m just happy both shows have awesome lesbian characters and rad female leads.

There are some gay women characters in a new film at the Venice Film Festival this week called A Street in Palermo, based on a novel by Emma Dante, who also plays one of the lesbians, Rosa. Alba Rohrwacher plays her partner, Clara, and you might recognize her as Tilda Swinton‘s gay daughter in I Am Love. The dark comedy sounds like it’s doing pretty well at the fest, and we’ll hopefully get it Stateside in the next year.

Christina Aguilera made a super gay video but it needs more lesbian.

Guinevere Turner tweeted this adorable headshot yesterday for Throwback Thursday. I’m pretty sure this is what got her the part in Go Fish.

Sasha Alexander talked with Babble about what it was like to be 29. If anyone wants to know what I feel about being 29 currently, I’ll be here, waiting.

Lesley Gore’s “It’s My Party” is experiencing a renaissance by being sampled in a new Icona Pop/Zebra Katz track. BTW listening to Lesley’s old songs like “Judy’s Turn to Cry” is so funny knowing she’s a gay. It’s like she totally wanted to do it to Judy.

WNBA ball player Sophia Young does not think gays should get married. She plays on the San Antonio Silver Stars and has spoken out against gay marriage in the city where she plays. Not awesome!

Olivia Wilde went on Reddit yesterday to answer fan questions, and here’s one she got:

How does it feel to be a woman who has portrayed an LGBT character and helped others come to terms with their sexuality? “Nothing gives me more pride than hearing gay and bisexual men and women tell me they were helped in some way by my roles on television. That’s a true honor. It is the responsibility of media to accurately reflect society.”
Now I ask, which one were they talking about: The O.C. or House?
