Morning Brew – Keyshia Cole sings about a woman lover in “She”

Good morning!

This interview with True Blood actress Bailey Noble reveals her character, Adilyn, was originally written to be gay.

“No, Adilyn is not going to be a lesbian.” [Laughs] Actually, when my character first came to life, they had written my character to be a lesbian! But I guess that somewhere along the line that just kind of got nixed.”

The rest of the interview is pretty spoilery about the season premiere so don’t read unless you’ve watched.

Another almost lesbian: Makoto Nanaya of BlazBlue: Bloodedge Experience. Says the series creator Toshimichi Mori:

“…I’m not an expert on the “yuri” genre (fiction depicting girl-on-girl romance) or anything, but I think I can reveal now that initially, Tsubaki was going to be a yuri (translates to “lesbian”) character. To the point that she’d often go ‘I love Noel!’ However, mid-way while writing the plot for BlazBlue, I realised that I couldn’t quite make it work. So in the end I changed it so that she had affections for Jin instead. This created a gap of sorts. To fill that gap, I created Makoto Nanaya, and the rest is history. Anyway, it looks like I’m just not capable of writing yuri fiction, I suppose.”

Back to True Blood for a second: Kristin Bauer van Straten will miss playing Pam.

It’s been fun playing such a strong woman. I have lesbians come up to me often and say, “It’s so good seeing a gay female character who dresses well.” [Laughs] I didn’t know this was something that was needed, but I’m very happy in those shoes. Literally. The main thing I’ll miss is hanging out with this particular group of people on this particular set. It’s been lovely. I think it comes from the top down. HBO is an incredible network, and they hire the most creative people and they just let them create. The other thing I’m going to miss, on an acting level, is the variety of emotions I’ve gotten to play. I’ve seen her vulnerable side, her loving side, her slutty side, her strong side.

Kristin also went on The Wrap’s “Drinking with the Stars” to talk about the show.

Keyshia Cole‘s new track “She” has some sapphic content. The R&B star sings the lyrics:

“Lips and legs, soft skin so feminine/Curves like me, covered in my cherry scent. The boys love some you, but I ain’t mad because you look good on me too.”
