Morning Brew – Friday, October 15: Jillian Michaels is peeved at the LA Times, “The Talk” starts Monday

TGIF! Hope you had a lovely week.

As you probably read in BLWE, Jillian Michaels is furious over a scathing piece in the LA Times said she was a fitness fraud. She told Us magazine:

Apparently I’m an actress. Shame on the Los Angeles Times for saying I’m a fraud and not a trainer. I currently own two certifications, one of which doesn’t expire. I developed my own continuing education program for trainers, with sports medicine doctors. I’ve been a trainer since I was 17-years old for 19 years. I’m going after them.

I love Jillian, but I do wonder about some of the things she/The Biggest Loser promotes. I mean, those instant smoothie things have a ton of sugar in them!

Grey’s Anatomy is producing six webisodes this season, found exclusively on ABC.com. The first one just went up last night, so head on over to watch. (Spoiler: No Calzona in this one.)

The Indigo Girls have released Holly Happy Days, a mix of classic Christmas songs and a few of their own, including one called “Mistletoe.” Sexy!

There’s a rumor going around that Top Gun 2 could be in the works. Something tells me Kelly McGillis wouldn’t be asked to take part, which means I couldn’t watch it if you paid me.

TheScavenger.net thinks female vampires are feminists, and I have to agree. They write of True Blood‘s Pam:

[She's] cold, calm, and deliciously comfortable with her bloodthirsty nature…except when it gets gore on her favourite pumps. She is violent, and carnally a-typical (that is, possessed of intent).

Pam’s exceptionality from the ‘whore’ archetype is the control she exerts over her appearance and, through it, the reception she garners from her surrounding characters; that is, her strikingly normal – and high femme – aesthetic.

She does, after all, have a penchant for lavender; she may wear leather and fishnets as Fangtasia’s dominatrix maitre de, but it’s just a clever disguise. She wields her sartorial choices expertly, and the disconnect between her pastel preferences and the woman they contain evoke Pam as ‘other’ in a surprisingly interesting way; a bizarre feminine type who blurs the lines women are supposed to walk religiously between good and bad, virgin and slut.

In short, she’s fierce. And if Nan Flanagan ever gets staked, Pam will surely be the new HBIC.

La Roux‘s Elly Jackson might have just had Kanye West guest on her “In For the Kill” remix, but are getting psyched.

I’m wondering if the show will make me want to have babies more or less.

Our own Lesley Goldberg talked with Dot Jones, currently playing Coach Beiste on Glee, for The Hollywood Reporter about being typecast as the stereotypical muscular butchy woman and playing smaller roles that got her to where she is today. She is proof that a role on Full House can lead to big things. Well, her and John Stamos.

Out Swedish musician Marit Bergman recorded a video of her singing a song called “Casey, Hold On,” which The New Gay says is “It Gets Better: The Lesbian Musical.” But ever since I read “Hold On,” I had Wilson-Phillips in my head, which also could be a lesbian “It Gets Better” theme song.

Speaking of the project, here’s JD Samson‘s contribution — her reading the lyrics from Le Tigre‘s “Keep on Living.”

And, because it’s Friday, here’s the poster for Amber Heard‘s new film with Nicolas Cage.

Coming not soon enough.

Today on TV: Angela Robinson directs the new TeenNick show Gigantic (TeenNick 9 p.m.), lesbian fitness trainer Lacey Stone shows up on Made (MTV 4 p.m.), lesbian couples on It’s Me or the Dog (Animal Planet 10 a.m.) and House Hunters (HGTV 10:30 p.m.) and new episodes of Outlaw (NBC 10 p.m.) and The Rachel Maddow Show (MSNBC 9 p.m.). And tomorrow, Melissa Etheridge performs on Private Sessions (Bio 7 a.m.)

Have a great weekend!
