Morning Brew – Friday, Nov. 18: Sara Gilbert likes Ellen for “Sexiest Man of the Year,” Amber Heard in “Women’s Health”

It’s Friday! I’m so excited for the weekend.

On The Talk yesterday, the hosts shared who they thought should have taken the title of People’s Sexiest Man. Sara Gilbert picked Ellen DeGeneres!

Margaret Cho‘s new music video has her hanging out with bands at Bonaroo, including The Gossip. The name of the song? “Baby I’m With the Band.” Fitting!

Out Fringe actress Jasika Nicole told TVLine.com that she takes inspiration for her “alternate Astrid” from her real life sister, who has autism. She said:

There are definitely some similarities that they have in terms of behavioral patterns.

Are you watching Fringe?

Chef Gabrielle Hamilton wrote one of my favorite memoirs this last year and she told The Miami New-Times how “despite being a lesbian, she ended up marrying a man”:

To pull off an illicit affair within the hours of 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. while living with your girlfriend is not an easy undertaking… Nobody, not even an erstwhile lesbian enjoying her midnight liaison with an Italian, wants to get married for pragmatic reasons.

If you haven’t read Blood, Bones and Butter, I’m telling you to do so now!

k.d. lang is selling her two million dollar ranch-style home in Laurel Canyon. Any takers?

Amber Heard is Women’s Health‘s December cover model. Inside, she tells the mag about coming out:

You can’t respect yourself if you’re afraid to be who you are. It requires bravery to do something no one else around you is doing. But the risk was outweighed by the possibility of playing into this horribly detrimental lie that some in Hollywood perpetuate.

Continually proud of her openness. I already subscribe to the magazine, otherwise I’d go out and purchase a copy.

Chely Wright was given the Interfaith Alliance’s President’s Award at the annual Walter Cronkite Faith & Freedom Award dinner in New York this week.

Congrats Chely!

The online mag for teen girls, Rookie Mag, takes on what it is like to date another girl.

Samantha Ronson and the Undertakers have a new song you can download over on their Facebook page. In the meantime, check out this blast-from-the-past page from Jane magazine that xojane posted this week.

The irony!

Meredith Baxter is returning to TV! She’ll be playing Lea Thompson’s mom on Switched at Birth. That means she’s playing a grandma! TVGuide reports “Sparks fly and tension arises when she arrives for a family visit,” which happens on the January 3 episode.

Want to help charity and meet Brandi Carlile? You’ll have to beat the current bid of $450.
