Morning Brew: Friday, July 9 – Rachel Maddow’s yearbook photo, “Venice” preps second season, lesbians hit the Outfest red carpet

Friday! Are you excited about the weekend?

So Tammy Lynn Michaels isn’t just taking to her blog anymore — she’s taking to the legal system. Tammy has filed for sole custody of her twins with Melissa Etheridge after Melissa filed for disillusionment of their domestic partnership and asked for shared custody. Something tells me this isn’t going to be pretty.

The cast and crew of Venice are back to work on season 2 and there are a ton of photos and behind-the-scenes video from the set. Here’s one Otalia fans will love.

Join the cast this Saturday, July 10 at 11:30 p.m. EST for a live chat fan event.

If you haven’t seen it yet, here is Rachel Maddow‘s senior photo. Yes, it’s really her!

There’s a pearl necklace joke being made on other sites, but not here! Now I’ve just put that idea in your head.

Last night was the opening for OutFest in L.A. and several lesbians and women who have played them were on the red carpet.

Jane Lynch was with wife Laura Embry and she talked with Access Hollywood about her Emmy nominations.

Yes, Jane, you have made it! And now you can have anything you want — including the “14-karat gold lamé tracksuit” you requested.

We finally have a bisexual woman on the U.S. version of Big Brother and she doesn’t want to tell her housemates about it. Annie from Tampa, Florida is keeping her sexuality secret so it “doesn’t hurt her game.” That doesn’t mean they won’t catch on, Annie — or that you won’t slip up in a hot tub situation.

Attention butches: This might be your new favorite book. Railroad Noir: The American West at the End of the Twentieth Century by Linda Grant Niemann is about a bisexual woman (with “lesbian leanings”) that works in the majorly male-dominated industry of railroading. It’s actually her third book on the subject, so we all have some catching up to to do. A review from In These Times notes:

Immersed in a male clubhouse, she writes of entering a caboose, “Every inch of the wall and ceiling was papered with porn. Everywhere I looked was a huge breast or a vulva. The caboose really belonged in a porn museum. No art installation I had ever seen, Keinholtz and Judy Chicago included, even came close.”

Talk about another world! It sounds like an intense read; a glimpse into “the other side.”

NBC’s Today Show was excluding gay couples from their Wedding Contest, but changed their tune after a meeting with GLAAD. Now you and yours can enter to win a dream wedding care of homophobes who were forced to embrace you based on fear of bad publicity!

Two things you have to do this weekend: Go see The Kids Are All Right and go see The Girl Who Played With Fire. So basically, spend your entire weekend at the movies. You won’t be disappointed, though. I promise! Our own reviews are forthcoming.
