Morning Brew – Cynthia Nixon and Wanda Sykes join “Alpha House”

Good morning!

Out TV producer Ali Adler has sold a new pilot to ABC. The untitled divorce comedy is about “the dirty little secret of those days and nights when your ex has the kids. You get to drink too much and binge-watch Breaking Bad without checking homework or giving baths – it’s about the silver lining of divorce.” There’s probably some inspiration from real life in there. No word on if lesbian characters will be involved.

E! Online reports that Amber Tamblyn’s “womanizing” lesbian character will have a one-night stand on an upcoming episode of Two and a Half Men, the same night Alan does: “There will be one morning where both of their dates are going to do the walk of shame out of the beach house together.” I can’t wait to see all the girls cast to play Amber’s love interests.

Looks like Samantha Ronson recently had a great time with Ellen Pompeo.

Carrie Brownstein loves to watch House of Cards on Netflix.

The Wall Street Journal interviewed Julie Maroh, the writer and artist behind Blue is the Warmest Color. My favorite quote:

Every time I casually declare “Yeah, I’m gay,” I contribute to the banalization of homosexuality. Again, I believe there are many ways for people to live their orientation. Like… being involved in gay activism — I’m sure I don’t have to remind you how much we need it, given the hateful homophobia around the world and on our doorstep sometimes — or living your love life the same way straight people do: freely, openly, without questioning it… It can positively make reticent people sensitive and raise their awareness to the idea that, yes, this is not a big deal, we’re not evil beasts! I would love to see the day when someone asks a boy “Have you got a girlfriend or a boyfriend, someone?” instead of just “Have you got a girlfriend?”
You go Julie Maroh!

JD Samson talked with MTV Hive about MEN’s upcoming album, Labor, and reveals she owns the coolest cat in New York.

She was first owned by Bianca from CocoRosie and then she was owned by Kim Ann Foxman and then she was with my neighbor. And now she’s with us. … Famous lesbian cat!
Speaking of Kim Ann Foxman, the out DJ/musician posed for ADIDAS and Stan Smith.

Patricia Field, Mandi Line and Orange is the New Black‘s costume designer Jenn Rogien are among those profiled in a New York Times piece about how TV fashion influences real life style.

UK field hockey stars Helen Richardson and Kate Walsh are getting married. I don’t like how the BBC puts “marry” in quotations, but I guess it’s their distinction since it isn’t legal where they live. Nonetheless, the couple has been together for five years and they are super adorable. Congrats ladies!

Heather Hogan sent me this rad piece from the Comics Alliance about why DC is cray for not letting Batwoman be happy and get married herself. An excerpt:

DC would have been smart to make an exception to their rule for a Batwoman marriage. I personally prefer Batwoman unmarried. I think pushing all the major LGBT characters in superhero comics into steady relationships can have a neutering effect, by taking them out of contention for stories of romantic discovery. Yet I also think it would be extraordinary and wonderful to make Kate and Maggie the Reed and Sue of the DC Universe. It would make a positive statement about same-sex marriage, and DC could have sold the story internally and externally as exceptional; deserving of exemption from their anti-marriage policy precisely because of its cultural importance. It would even have gone some way towards assuaging an audience that has come to think DC only cares about two types of relationship – a man’s relationship with his libido, and a fist’s relationship with a skull.
Snap snap.

The Breeders’ Josephine Wiggs put together this teaser for the new Luscious Jackson album, Show Us What You Got. It certainly is a tease!

I’m going on HuffPost Live today to talk how lesbians feel about bisexual women. It all goes down at 10:30 a.m. PST so join in the conversation.

Michigan, please stop embarrassing me.

Cynthia Nixon and Wanda Sykes have joined the cast of Amazon’s new series Alpha House. Cynthia will play “Sen. Carly Armiston, a formidable, confident, Democratic senator from New York,” while Wanda is “Sen. Rosalyn DuPeche, a strong-willed and funny Democrat who happens to be a neighbor of the male senators.” Also part of the fun are Amy Sedaris and Julie White (!!!!) This is going to be some must-watch shit.

People magazine has 60 seconds with Jessica Capshaw where she says she hopes Callie and Arizona “learn to speak with honesty to each other” this season.
