Morning Brew: “Cinderfella” is the Katy Perry/Disney mash-up you’ve been waiting for, NewFest promises diverse lesbian films

Good morning, Brewbies. When you woke up this morning, I know you were like, “Man, I wish I could see a gaye-ed up fairy tale music video that mashes-up Disney soundtracks with Katy Perry. A lesbian Alice in Wonderland dancing with some drag queens would be just the thing to get my day going.” Well, you’re in luck! Todrick Hall, the best thing to get voted off American Idol since Jennifer Hudson, has released a follow-up to his “Beauty and the Beast” music video, and this time it’s “Cinderfella.”

Click here to watch the video; you won’t be sorry. It’s actually a really lovely plea for same-sex marriage.

OK, now let me help you plan your weekend. This Friday, New York’s top LGBT film festival, NewFest, kicks off its 24th annual season. There are some wonderfully diverse gay girl films screening this year, including lesbian coming of age story Mosquita y Mari, which our own Danielle Riendeau loved, and which also won a boatload of awards at Outfest last weekened, including the Audience Award and Best Actress Award.

Other lesbian films on tap at NewFest are Cloudburst, the story of an aging lesbian couple (played by Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker), who embark on a raucous roadtrip to get away from their granddaughter who is trying to break them up. Also, Stud Life, which features a “sexy, black, butch lesbian and her cute-twink BFF” who are looking for love in London. Queen of My Dreams is a Bollywood-esque queer reimagining of Aradhana. Kiss Me is the sensual Swedish drama that our writer Jennifer Kilchenmann compared favorably to Imagine Me & You.

You can check out a full list of films and screening dates/times at Lincoln Center’s Film Society website.

ABC Family has dropped a couple of sneak peeks of next week’s Pretty Little Liars, and it looks like Emily is starting to question how much she really knew Maya.

I hope when I die, my girlfriend doesn’t think our whole relationship was a sham just because she can’t crack my email password on the first try.

Known truth-abiding website Radar Online has broken the news that that Marilyn Monroe had herself a lesbian affair with Jane Lawrence, a teenager who ran her fan club. An apparent excerpt from an obviously reputable biography posted on Radar:

While trying to measure paper for the shelves, Lawrence was shocked when her idol suddenly planted a kiss on her thigh, with a “mischievous twinkle” in her eye. “The next few minutes became hazy, surreal and dream-like. My pulse leaped as Marilyn kissed my thigh again… she then leaned in and kissed me full on the lips, very softly and very slowly. I was nearly hyperventilating,” said Lawrence in the memoir. “We moved through the living room into the bedroom,” she revealed, and as their passion escalated, “Marilyn used her tongue, lavishly flicking and licking, an entirely new sensation for me.

I mean, I know I always say things like “lavishly flicking and licking” in regular conversation. Anyway, I’m only mentioning it because I hope to see this subplot introduced on Smash next season when Ivy and Karen finally make out.

Wisconsin legislator JoCasta Zamarripa has come out as bisexual. Speaking to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the state rep said, “It has always been my goal in office to be transparent and honest with my constituents … But before the primary in 2010, I didn’t have the valor and courage to come out … I feel remiss that I didn’t come out then.” She also talked a little bit about the stigma of the “B” in LGBT, and how Ellen’s coming out helped her to acknowledge her own sexuality to herself when she was teen.

Congratulations, JoCasta Zamarripa!
