Morning Brew – Bex-Taylor Klaus plays a genderqueer ball player on “House of Lies”

Good morning! Thanks to Heather Hogan for taking care of the Brew while I was out.

A huge happy birthday to my wife Julie! She’s 36 today.

PrideSource asked Janelle Monae about the lesbianish lyrics on her new album, The Electric Lady. It appears things could be misconstrued according to the songwriter:

“I actually have never heard that. This is the first time I’m hearing it. But I will say that a lot of my work always comes from an authoritative stance, so it may not be about me; it may just be about a story, or something that I’ve witnessed, or my imagination. You just never know.”

Rosie O’Donnell is returning to stand up, which is pretty awesome. She performed a 20 minute set before out comic Jessica Kirson‘s show last week. Hopefully there will be less Tom Cruise this time around.

Don’t worry, Gleeks: It doesn’t appear the show will shy away from sweet lady kisses this season. Demi Lovato told Ryan Seacrest:

“What I want people to take from this isn’t, ‘Oh my God, Demi is kissing a girl. This is crazy!’” I want people to take from it that this is actually an incredible step in our generation today where I’m able to play a young lesbian on prime time TV.”

Demi, how do you feel about my taking away both of those things? Compromise?

Everyone knows Orange is the New Black is a hit, but even its distributors don’t know how big of a hit it is, numbers-wise.

Stephan King has a lesbian character in his new book, Doctor Sleep, which is a sequel to The Shining. A Vulture review tells us there is:

“Andrea Steiner, who is repeatedly raped by her father and grows up to become—one guess, folks—a man-hating lesbian with a vengeful streak. (Eventually she joins the vampires, thereby making the cultural stereotype that won’t die officially Undead.) ”

Lesbian vampires! You don’t say!?

What do lesbians think about bisexuals? THESE LESBIANS DO NOT REPRESENT THE ENTIRE LESBIAN OPINION. AT ALL.

In some awesome news, two former gay chicks on TV have been added to the cast of Showtime’s House of Lies. Eliza Coupe (formerly bisexual Jane on Happy Endings) and Bex Taylor-Klaus (aka Bullet from The Killing) are both going to be on the third season of the series. This is why you need to watch: Deadline describes Bex’s character as:

Lex, a badass genderqueer basketball player who connects with Marty’s (Don Cheadle) son Roscoe (Donis Leonard Jr.)

Looks like I need to watch Seasons 1 and 2 to get caught up immediately.

Don’t forget she’s also on Arrow this fall season! She posted this pic from the set on her Facebook.
