Morning Brew: Amber Heard is a “beauty-pageant Barbie with a twist,” Lucy Lawless is a pro at dying on TV

Good morning, Brewbies! Trish Bendix is on a much-deserved vacation so I’ll be Brew-ing it up for you this week.

Amber Heard is featured in the women’s fall fashion issue of T: The New York Times Style Magazine. In addition to looking fierce, Heard talked about her upcoming role in Robert Rodriguez‘s Machete Kills, saying her character is “a punch-throwing, gun-shooting, crown-wearing, sash-bearing, beauty-pageant Barbie with a twist.” I hope the twist is that she’s a raging homosexual!

Starz is getting ready for the Spartacus: Vengeance DVD release by raining down box-set extras on the internet, like this one where Lucy Lawless walks us through the merciless, graphic way everyone on the show gets slaughtered all the time. (Warning: This two-minute clip boasts more blood than an entire season of True Blood.)

ABC Family has dropped a couple of new promos for the penultimate summer season episode of Pretty Little Liars, and look out, Paige!

It wouldn’t be a day that ends in “Y” if Spencer Hastings wasn’t accusing some innocent person of murder. (Love you, Spence! Take a nap, though!)

Let’s talk women’s sports, shall we? First up, AfterEllen.com is teaming up with the WNBA for our annual Score Your Seats Sweepstakes. You can enter once a day for a chance to win tickets to game three of the WNBA Championship in October, plus round-trip airfare and accommodations. So, hop on over and submit an entry! Do it now! If you win, you can share your tickets with me your friends!

Also, in exciting sports news this morning: After such a remarkable showing at the Olympics, women’s professional soccer is going to make another go of it in the States. According to Sports Illustrated: “Representatives for the Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, New Jersey Sky Blue FC, all former Women’s Professional Soccer clubs, said that they, along with at least five other teams, plan to open play in the spring of 2013.”

(Thanks for the tip, Lucy Hallowell!)

Kirsten Vangsness was one of the celebs who walked the red carpet this weekend for Project Food Angel’s annual Angel Awards. I never, ever get tired of seeing her give interviews. One second she’s talking about how she’s from outer space and the next second she’s describing Crimnal Minds as “murder camp! People get hurt, we go save them, I type on a computer, everything works out in the end!”
