Morning Brew – Ashley Tisdale plays a lesbian on “Young & Hungry”

Good morning!

Today let’s remember Nancy Garden, the author of the seminal lesbian novel Annie on My Mind. Nancy passed over the weekend at age 76.

I’m loving this post over at DapperQ: What Well-Dressed Dykes Wore in the ’70s. (The out ones, anyway!)

AdWeek made a lovely rainbow graphic of brands that are faves in the LGBT community.

Carrie Brownstein has joined the cast of Amazon’s Transparent, playing Gaby Hoffman’s best friend named Syd.

Maria Bello and Joan Jett will star in a new Stephen King adaptation on Lifetime called Big Driver. Maria plays “Tess Thorne (Bello), a famous and revered mystery and thriller writer, while all that’s known about Joan is she will play someone named Betsy Neal.

Chirlane McCray says her lesbian past is still important to her, and also important to her husband, the Mayor of NYC.

Why, yes, I would love to see LGBT history as told by puppets.

Linda Perry talks about her “beef” with Pink on Larry King Now.

Tegan Quin tells Flavorwire her song of the summer is Shout Out Louds’ “14th of July.”

I’m sure this isn’t a “summer song,” but it popped into my head when asked what my song of of summer for this year would be. Lyrically, the song is set in summer. So that counts right? Who cares. The song is beautiful. The lyrics are incredibly visual. It’s upbeat. The production is fun and visceral. Summery or not, I’ll be lying in the sun drinking to this song this year.
Jennifer O’Connor’s “I Do” is one of my songs of the summer.

Did you know the creators of House Hunters are lesbians – and a couple?

TAGG has a list of 10 Movies that Set Back the LGBT Community. I disagree with High Art!

Meanwhile Fandor has 25 LGBTQ Movies that are essential viewing.

An upcoming episode of the new ABC Family series Young & Hungry is called “Young and Lesbian,” and the lesbian in question is Ashley Tisdale (also the executive producer of the show). The actress will guest as a “fesity magazine editor” named Logan Rawlings. Logan wants to be set up with Gabi (Emily Osment), but something tells me Gabi won’t feel the same. The episode airs July 9.

Mary Gauthier appeared on Fresh Air this week, telling Terry Gross about her new album Trouble & Love.

You can now preorder Sia’s new album 1000 Forms of Fear.

Kathy Bates talks about playing a lesbian in Tammy and all of the other very gay roles she’s played in her long and amazing career.

There’s a tribute to a recently fallen True Blood character here. (Spoiler alert if you haven’t watched the season premiere.)

Dani Shay is part of this new project called We Are One.

i-D put together their list of top five onscreen lesbian couples and results are hilarious. (Kalicia!)

They also have Big Boo’s top five power tools.

Emily Rios attended a Paley Center Panel last night with her The Bridge castmates. She returns as the lesbian reporter Adriana Mendez on July 9.
