Queerty, we hardly knew ye

You might have noticed, Queerty.com has been offline since last Tuesday because of "technical difficulties." Well, according to a letter penned by Queerty founder David Hauslaib (via Bilerico), it turns out the outfit that had taken over and had been running the website for the past year, 353Media, decided that fixing those technical difficulties weren't actually worth the effort. They've elected to simply kill the site.

This is unfortunate news. We've had the occasional issue with Queerty over the years, but it's sad whenever a gay website community goes dark, and Queerty did indeed have a thriving community. We offer our sincere condolences — both to Queerty readers and contributors.

Update: An official announcement via Queerty's facebook page:

After more than five years of serving the LGBT community with news and entertainment, Queerty has come to a close. The decision to shutter the site was not an easy one to make, and it is with great pain that we say goodbye to our loyal readership. From all of Queerty's writers and contributors, from our first unto our last day, thank you for spending some time with us.
