New Music Tuesday: 4-13-2010

Pardon me today — I am still getting over the fact that I was standing ten feet away from Florence Welch last night. Her voice was heartbreakingly beautiful and her fiery red mane flashed across the stage in a blur. A great time was had by all, especially the drunken boys in front of me who smelled like 3-day-old Korean BBQ and sang along to every song as though they had written it themselves. Let’s get on with this week’s new music though shall we?

The Pack A.D.We Kill Computers (Mint Records)

This band is exactly why I love New Music Tuesdays here at AfterEllen. Last week, AE reader Lucychromosome commented that The Pack A.D. was one of the best things she has heard in a while. I had to check them out for myself and have since been stalking them and their record label trying to get an interview and/or use a song of theirs on Chick Habit so that I can spread the love. Not only is lead singer Becky Black a major babe but she’s got some serious rock ‘n roll growl. I don’t know if they’re gay, but I sure do hope they are.

Kaki KingJunior (Rounder)

Out multi-instrumentalist and incredible composer, Kaki King, is back with a new album which you can expect the unexpected from. Apparently the theme of living a double life is the foundation upon which Junior was written. While you won’t be hearing her signature guitar tapping, you can expect songs drenched with emotion and a talent few musicians possess.

Girl in a ComaAdventures in Coverland (Blackheart Records)

Score another one for the gays for the next three weeks in a row! The San Antonio trio is releasing three volumes of cover songs — the first of which includes Selena’s “Si Una Vez” and The Beatles‘ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”

Natalie MerchantLeave Your Sleep (Myth America Records)

I’m fairly certain the last time I listened to Natalie Merchant was while I was experiencing her live from the grass at Lilith Fair. From what I can tell, her voice hasn’t changed a bit on this new album; she is just as soothing as I remember.

Honorable mentions this week include: Straight No Chaser, Help for Haiti Compilation, Idina Menzel, Dosh, MGMTand The Tallest Man on Earth.

Let me know what I missed, my gorgeous readers!
