New Music Tuesday: 6-16-09

I could be wrong, but I’m willing to bet most AfterEllen.com readers will not be purchasing the new Jonas Brothers CD that comes out today. But if you are, and are looking for some other music while you’re at it, there are some great new releases in several different genres to try out this week.

Here’s what’s new:

If Jill looks familiar, it’s because you might recognize her from her roles on Law and Order or Crossing Jordan. For her album, she brings in the big guns on her Americana album, with contributions from R.E.M.‘s Mike Mills and Martie Maguire of The Dixie Chicks. How are they for some eclectic endorsements?

Daughter of legendary country singer Hank Williams, Jr., Holly sings songs in the same vein. Her heartache-tinged folk songs will be embraced by fans of both modern and old-school country fans alike.

An amazing funky soul album, Jill Scott sings sensual tunes that would chill anyone out and turn anyone on. Be prepared to be wildly impressed with the woman’s vocal talents if you haven’t given then a listen before.

Brody Dalle was well-known for being the frontwoman of punk band The Distillers, so when they broke up, fans waited to see what would come next. The wait is finally over, as Spinnerette proves to be a more interesting dance-rock mix that would be more Pitchfork-friendly than Warped Tour-ready. Try out “Ghetto Love” and you’ll see what I mean.

What are you listening to this week?
