It’s a good news week for queer band Hercules and Love Affair. Not only were they nominated as music artist of the year as part of the GLAAD Media Awards, but they’ve also been confirmed to play one of the country’s largest music festivals. The Coachella Music Festival is a three-day gathering of hotly anticipated musical acts, new and old, with celebrities from not-too-far-off Los Angeles congregating to be seen in the V.I.P. tents.
This year’s festival will take place April 17-19 in its usual venue, the Indio Desert in California. It’s sweaty and dirty, but it’s worth it for acts like H&LA, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Amanda Palmer, The Kills, Vivian Girls and X, among others. Even Amy Winehouse has confirmed, though she has a few months to self-destruct before then.
The headliners are Paul McCartney, The Killers and The Cure, and it does seem to be bit male-heavy this year in general, but the positive side of Coachella is that there are many bands scheduled at the same time. You might be lucky enough to get up close to Kim Ann Foxman if Hercules and Love Affair are playing the same time as The Killers. Another benefit: You’ll be guaranteed dance music and some eye candy.
Have you ever made the trip out to Coachella? Would you for this line-up?
