New Music Tuesday: 1-6-2009

Some highly anticipated albums are scheduled to come out this year, but it looks like we’re going to have to wait a little bit longer for most of them to be released. Today there’s only a small offering of new music.

This Nashville-based singer/songwriter is more pop than she is country, with a sound more akin to Rachael Yamagata than others who hail from McCarley’s adopted hometown. Fans of Ingrid Michaelson will appreciate her smooth approach and straightforward style.

This album is already available in the U.S., but UK readers can now share in the music that Michelle Paradise listed among her favorite music of 2008. The Scottish quartet has a female drummer in Caroline McKay, which certainly adds to the appeal of seeing them live.

So what can we look forward to for the rest of this year? The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Missy Elliott, Lady Sovereign, Tori Amos, Chicks on Speed, Kelly Clarkson and the Indigo Girls are among the artists who have been recording and plotting a release for 2009. Are there any you’re particularly looking forward to? I have to admit I’m curious about Clarkson’s new album after seeing the artwork for her first single.

It appears she’s trying to latch onto that whole lollipop thing that Lil’ Wayne and Three Six Mafia cultivated last year, and I’m not complaining.
