Gaming is for Girls: “Rock Band” goes country

MS releases first lot of 360 Avatar clothing

The first lot of avatar clothing has just been released and it’s free. If you like snowboarding, then you’re probably going to love this set, given its a snow coat, gloves, boots and hat.

Microsoft has said they will release avatar clothing updates fairly regularly. We would expect some form of “holiday season” outfits to be released in the coming weeks, though nothing has been officially announced.

Activision releases some choice titles for 2009

Games journalists have been at it this week talking up some of the titles Activision will release in 2009 and one of them sounds pretty interesting. Activision has yet to confirm these, but rumor has it we’ll see more “Guitar Hero,” “Call of Duty,” “James Bond” and “Tony Hawk” next year.

It’s the “Tony Hawk” title that has us interested. An Activision exec said, “You’re not going to be playing this game with a controller in your hands.” We would therefore assume we can expect a bespoke skateboard controller for the game when it releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii late next year. Not sure if it’s related, but Q-Motions was working on a skateboard controller earlier in the year, but all has gone quiet.

Lionhead working on “Fable II” patch

According to Lionhead, the patch they’re working on for “Fable II” is “coming along nicely” and should fix a plethora of annoying glitches within the game. With regard to “Fable II,” there’s also the Knothole Island downloadable content that is now less than a week away. Knothole Island will set you back 800 MS Points.

Country music to hit “Rock Band” DLC?

The “Rock Band” forums aren’t happy that country music is getting some lovin’, despite people not having to download it if they aren’t into it. We think it’s great to have more choices, and adding a genre like country is welcome. According to a reporter for CMT, the content will hit Dec. 16 and will include songs by Bentley, Brad Paisley, Brooks and Dunn, Miranda Lambert and The Dixie Chicks.

“The Witcher” coming to console – “The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf”

Atari has confirmed a console version of “The Witcher” after a video leaked the information earlier in the week. “The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf” will release on PS3 and Xbox 360 mid-2009.

The game is based on the story of the multi-award-winning, million-selling PC role-playing game “The Witcher” and has been “completely rebuilt pixel by pixel for the new generation of consoles, ‘The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf’ brings the unrivaled RPG experience to Xbox 360 and PS3 with a brand new combat system for thrilling dynamic action, and a new engine delivering matchless state-of-the-art visuals.” We’ve definitely got this one on our radar.

Over at LesbianGamers this week, we’ve got an L Word special that sees the cast of the show in Xbox 360 Avatar form. They’re cute and each has a blurb about her gaming habits. We’ve also got the usual news and reviews, including the question of right and wrong with regard to outing — or discussing the sexuality of — video game characters.

At LesbianGeek, we’re happy to see the “Battlestar Galactica” spinoff series, “Caprica,” has finally been greenlit for a full first season.
