It seems like LGBTQ people all over the world are getting good news all the time these days. Yesterday, here in the States, the Minnesota Senate passed marriage equality legislation that the governor has already promised to sign into law. Today, the Brazillian National Council of Justice ruled that same-sex marriages must be allowed at all government offices. These victories follow similar ones that took place in France and New Zealand and several other states in the U.S. earlier this year. And while it’s hard not to think that the war for equality is drawing to a close, it’s important to remember that in some places in the world, being an LGBTQ person is still punishable by death.
In fact, the United Nations Human Rights Office has released a new PSA hoping to combat homophobia worldwide. It is called “The Riddle” and the promise it makes to gay people everywhere is: “You are not alone.”

So, as we continue to celebrate our hard-won marriage equality victories, let’s not forget to reach out and lobby and demand humanitarian equality for our gay brothers and sisters all over the world.
