Delaware Becomes the 11th State to Legalize Same-Sex Marriage

on

Yesterday evening, Delaware became the 11th state to legalize same-sex marriage when Governor Markell signed a marriage equality bill into law almost immediately after it passed the Senate with a 12-9 vote. Delaware, of course, follows Rhode Island, which achieved marriage equality just last week. It also follows Uruguay, New Zealand and France, all of which made same-sex marriage legal at the national level only a month ago. It feels awesome to read that, right? Well, feel even awesome-er by watching Markell sign Deleware’s marriage equality bill in front of 200 gay rights activists.

And here’s the celebration in photo form:

Gay citizens of Delaware already enjoy civil unions, but they will officially be able to marry beginning July 1st. You go, Small Wonder state!
