The 2007 BET Awards airs tonight at 8:00/7:00 on, uh, BET. Beyoncé is nominated for six awards, including the Best Female R&B award, along with Ciara, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson and Corinne Bailey Rae. In the Best Actress category, the contenders are Tichina Arnold (Everybody Hates Chris), Jennifer Hudson, Chandra Wilson (Grey’s Anatomy), Angela Bassett and Kerry Washington. There’s even an award for Best Female Athlete; the nominees are Swin Cash, Gail Devers, Serena Williams, Tamika Catchings and Lisa Leslie.
But I’m much more interested in the fact that Mo’Nique is hosting. She’s consistently funny and naughty, which is of course the perfect combination for an awards show. Entertainment Weekly notes that Mo’Nique “plans to change outfits every single segment in tribute to the night’s big honoree, Diana Ross." In tribute to, or in trumping of?!
The BET site has a great video of Mo’Nique lookin’ crazy right now. I was going to post a clip of Mo’Nique doing her thing on The Queens of Comedy, but I couldn’t find a clip that was suitable for all ages — or even most ages. (And yes, that’s part of what I love about her.)
If you need more reasons to watch the BET Awards, Queen Latifah will be presenting. If Mo’Nique and Latifah end up on the stage at the same time, how will we cope with all the fabulousness?!
