Judge Marsha N. Revel sentenced 24-year old actress Lindsay Lohan to 90 days in jail today in Beverly Hills, CA, finding that she was in violation of the terms of her probation in a 2007 DUI case. The judge also ordered Lohan spend 90 days in an in-patient substance abuse program and refrain from drinking alcohol. Lohan’s four-year probation is still in effect.
Danette Meyers, a representative from the LA County District Attorney’s office told the court that she had witnesses who would testify that Lohan had consumed alcohol at the MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles on June 6. “There was alcohol in her system. We have witnesses to prove that there was alcohol in her system as a result of the bracelet going off."
Prosecutors also argued that Lohan failed to comply with orders to attend weekly alcohol education classes, and a class operator testified that Lohan had accumulated nine absences. Judge Revel said, "It’s like someone who cheats but doesn’t think it’s cheating if they
don’t get caught,"
Lohan told the court before sentencing. "I just wanted to take a minute to say that as far I knew I was in compliance with my programs. I wasn’t trying to get special treatment. I have to provide for myself. I have to work. Having said that, I did everything to balance my jobs and showing up. I’m not taking this as a joke. It’s my life. It’s my career … I take responsibility for my actions. I’ve tried to do the best I can. It’s been such a long haul, I don’t want you to think that I don’t respect you.”
Lohan is required to wear a SCRAM bracelet until she turns herself in at the courthouse on July 20 and begins her term at Los Angeles County Jail.
The Washington Post is also reporting that during a break in the hearing, "Lohan was served with papers in the
courthouse elevator for $17,000 in unpaid bills to a L.A. boutique."
