Lesbians play Coachella and sign on to Lilith

The 2010 Coachella music festival lineup was announced this week, and it includes a handful of queer ladies and some not-quite-queer-but-we-wished-they-were. The three-day fest is the first of the year’s multi-day music festivals, taking place in the infamously hot and dirty desert of Empire Polo Field in Indio, California April 16 – 18.

While Coachella festival-goers have grown accustomed to the 100 degree+ temperatures and the desert camping, it’s not something I’ve ever thought was worth it – especially living in Chicago, where there’s Lollapalooza and it gets about as hot as the Kalahari in August.

However, with a lineup including out acts like Gossip, The xx and Sia as well as loads of other girls who are hits with the gays, it may be time to reconsider the whole desert thing.

La Roux, Camera Obscura, She and Him (umm Zooey Deschanel? Swoon.), The Dead Weather (I heart Alison Mosshart) are all scheduled to play.

Also, Florence and the Machine and Little Boots, who been known to french each other. Wouldn’t want to miss that.

But seriously, don’t expect me to camp. On the ground. In a desert. There’s got to a hotel around somewhere, right? Or I’ll just settle for an extra bunk on the Gossip bus, which will also be making its way to the resurrected Lilith Fair.

Lilith 2010 is not unlike the Lilith Fairs of the past: It also features tons of gay lady musicians (and Sarah McLachlan, taking a break from those depressing ASPCA commercials). The Indigo Girls, Sia, Tegan and Sara, Missy Higgins, Brandi Carlile are all confirmed so far.

Check out the full lineup for Coachella (which has some great fellas playing too, like Grizzly Bear, Phoenix, MGMT) and Lilith Fair.

I don’t know about you guys, but it being January in Chicago, the desert actually doesn’t sound half bad.
