Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift get comic booked

Quiz time, lesbos! What do Sarah Palin and Lady Gaga have in common?

Answer: Both are stars of their own comic books!

Bluewater Productions — the folks behind the Female Force comics — has announced that Lady Gaga will headline the launch of their new “Fame” series, which will drop this spring during Free Comic Book Day.

The comics are a spin-off of their popular “Political Power” series, which has featured both Barack and Bo Obama.

Despite the stagnant economy and slumping comic book industry, the titles thrived last year, in large part because Female Force comics are available in all kinds of places. I saw Sarah Palin’s animated mug grinning at me in no less than five locations over the holidays: the comic shop, the book store, the grocery store, the teacher supply store and the library. She totin’ that cartoon gun everywhere, like an Alaskan Elmer Fudd!

While Bluewater will continue to publish their series, they plan to use it for “socially and politically important figures.” The new “Fame” titles will give them “the ability to tell more interesting stories about a wider variety of notable personalities.”

So far the notable personalities include Gaga, Robert Pattinson, 50 Cent, David Beckham and Taylor Swift.

I’ve purchased all of the comics, and because they’re unauthorized biographies, they kind of read like an illustrated version of Wikipedia. I’m sure the Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift titles will be similar. I actually think the comics would be more interesting if Ellen, Hillary Clinton, JK Rowling, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift teamed up to fight crime — or pass heath-care reform.

My dream issues of “Female Force” would feature Rachel Maddow, Iceland’s lesbian prime minister Johanna Sigurdardottir, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth and University of Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt. My dream issues of “Fame” would star Meryl Streep and Emma Watson.

What do you think of Lady Gaga as a comic book character? What Female Force comics would you like to read?
