Kirsten Dunst says bye-bye, Tobey; hello, Debbie

In an interview on SuperheroHype.com, Kirsten Dunst says Spider-Man 3 (opening May 4) represents the end of a trilogy. She doesn’t close the door on the possibility of another Spidey movie (uh, I guess a new trilogy?) — but only if Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi are still involved, which looks less and less likely.

Dunst is almost snooty in the interview, especially on the topic of Mary Jane’s singing:

SHH!: Did you enjoy singing?

Dunst: I was just happy that she finally got a gig. I’ve always sang so it wasn’t a big deal to me. I could prerecord it and just lip-synch to it.

Well, excuuuuse me. Dunst does acknowledge that singing is sometimes a “big deal”: She says she could never do a Broadway show because she could never “sing live in front of a big audience.” That won’t stop her from singing on film, though:

SHH!: Are you going to play Debbie Harry?

Dunst: Yeah, but it’s too early to talk about it.

For me, it’s always going to be too early to talk about it. More like too upsetting to talk about it: Kirsten Dunst as Debbie Harry?! The badass foul-mouthed awesomely weird Rip-Her-to-Shreds diva?! That’s just koo-koo.

Supposedly Harry herself chose Dunst, but I can’t see it working at all. Especially given Dunst’s attitude about other edgy things:

SHH!: What about the “Barbarella” remake?

Dunst: No, I don’t want to wear that outfit. That’s too revealing.

Yeah, that sounds like just the sort of person who should play Debbie Harry. Grumble.
