Kelly Clarkson’s new single rocks

You may have heard that Kelly Clarkson is releasing her third CD, My December, later this year (the official release date hasn’t been announced, but it’s likely due out this summer). The first single, “Never Again,” has just hit the airwaves, and in my opinion, it rocks. Here’s Kelly’s new look:

When she won the first season of American Idol, I wasn’t so sure that she was gonna make it as a pop star, but after her second album, Breakaway, was released, she crossed over from guilty pleasure to full-on rock star. And after hearing an entire bar full of dykes singing along to “Since U Been Gone” a couple of years ago, I realized she has also crossed over into full-on lesbian icon. (Yeah, we’ve heard the rumors, too.)

Some of the lyrics are a little funny, especially the first line (“I hope the ring you gave to her turns her finger green” — ha!), but the rest of the song is chock full of angsty goodness just begging to be used in fan video chronicling some dyke drama. Let me just post the lyrics here for your subtexty interpretations:

I hope the ring you gave to her turns her finger green

I hope when you’re in bed with her you think of me

I would never wish bad things, but I don’t wish you well

Could you tell by the flames that burned your words

I never read your letter ’cause I knew what you’d say

Give me that Sunday school answer

Try and make it all OK

Does it hurt to know I’ll never be there

Bet it sucks to see my face everywhere

It was you who chose to end it like you did

I was the last to know

You knew exactly what you were doin’

Don’t say you simply lost your way

She may believe you, but I never will

Never again

If she really knows the truth, she deserves you

A trophy wife, oh, how cute

Ignorance is bliss, but when your day comes

And he’s through with you

And he’ll be through with you

You’ll die together, but alone

You wrote me in a letter

You couldn’t say it right to my face

Well, give me that Sunday school answer

Repent yourself away

Never again will I hear you

Never again will I miss you

Never again will I fall to you

Never again will I kiss you

Never again will I want to

Never again will I love you

Never!

Tell it, sister! So, what’s she really saying here? Hmm.
