“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” trailer: Cry, Muggles, cry!

It seems like just yesterday I was standing in line at Barnes and Noble at midnight, wearing my Gryffindor Quidditch T-shirt, waiting to pick up my copy of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. And a whole other yesterday when I was debating whether or not Crookshanks was Mundungus Fletcher’s Animagus on the Chamber of Secret Forums. And a whole other yesterday when I cried my way through a bachelorette party because Snape had blasted Dumbledore off the Astronomy tower only three hours before. (Oh, for a Time-Turner to go back and get on the right side of that argument. I thought Snape was evil ’till the very end.)

Now, here we are: The final installment of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows hits theaters in July. ABC Family aired the first official trailer last night, and Merlin’s most baggy Y-fronts, it’s going to slay you.

As a general rule, I don’t watch Harry Potter trailers before the movies come out. I also try my very hardest to avoid stills and clips and interviews with the cast, because even though I’ve read every Potter book at least a gajillion times, I like to have my socks blown off – RIP Dobby! – when I see the movie the first time at the theater at midnight. But I couldn’t help myself last night. Snape, you magnificent bastard! Hermione, you cleverest witch in the history of the time! Bellatrix Lestrange, you absolute sociopath! Molly Weasley, you bad-ass motherf–ker! I love you all!

If you really want to know how far we’ve come, here you go:

What are you going to do while you wait for the last installment of the greatest movie franchise ever? Well, you could reread the books (again). You could check out the Harry Potter remake of Rebecca Black‘s “Friday.” (“Ravenclaws, Ravenclaws. We’re the smart kids, we’re Ravenclaws.”) You could watch Emma Watson ruin a bunch of takes of the Deathly Hallows scene at Xenophilius Lovegood’s house. (“I’m good as gold. I’m the class pet!”) You could watch a behind the scenes look at the final day of Deathly Hallows filming. (Cry, Muggles, cry!) Or, you could check out Lucy Knisley’s abridged Harry Potter comics, which are my favorite pieces of Potter fan art ever.

Click through to Lucy’s LiveJournal to check out the other books (and the full-size version of Philosopher’s Stone. And be sure to have a look around her website; she’s an enchanting illustrator.

Maybe that will take your mind off the fact the fact that our childhoods are ending! Someone hold me; I’m not going to make it.

What do you think about the Deathly Hallows Part 2 trailer?
