This month is AfterEllen.com’s 10th anniversary, so we will be celebrating all week with some special content.
Rachel Maddow was on The Howard Stern show this weekend and she talked about playing volleyball in high school, that blonde yearbook photo and when she realized she was gay (“I figured it out through rational deduction.”) And, of course, since it’s Howard Stern, he asked if she was a gold star (aka have never had sex with guys):
She takes it all in stride, because she’s Rachel Maddow, and she’s taken on harder questions from worse people. MaddowFans has put up the audio from the interview, so take a listen. It’s worth it!
The Sarah Silverman Program is coming to DVD with a lot of extras, which will hopefully mean some behind-the-scenes info on Tig Notaro‘s lesbian episode.
In news I’m really excited, about Carrie Brownstein is working on a memoir! It’s going to be about “her life in music.” I’m ready to read it yesterday.
Kelly Hollis said she wants her character to go gay on Emmerdale, but she also said she doesn’t want to get married, Corrie style.
Kelly is also on Shameless in the UK. And if you watch Shameless in the U.S., as I do, you probably watched the finale last night, which included Jenna Elfman playing Monica’s new gal pal.
Trading up from Bob (Carlease Burke)? Definitely trading up from Frank (William H. Macy).
I also watched The Killing last night, which includes Brendan Sexton III. Brendan got into bed for a web series called In Bed with Galadriel, which is hosted by a lesbian (named Galadriel Masterson) from her bed (duh) in Brooklyn. And she has a pug. I like it all.
If you want to know what’s happening at the Club Skirts Dinah Shore Weekend, here’s a look.
I feel like the term celesbian is used a little liberally here.
And in this video, meet the new NYC cast members from The Real L Word.
Spoiler alert: It’s Hunter Valentine! The rock trio are allowing cameras into their lives, on-stage and off. It’s going to be interesting to see the juxtaposition of NY and LA, as I don’t think Kiyomi, Laura and Vera are as into cream corn wrestling or making dildos for their friends. At least not that they’ve told me.
Speaking of The Real L Word, Rose and Romi say “Boo 2 Bullying.” I have a feeling Rose’s ex-girlfriends would disagree.
Check out this new book: Tomboy Style: Beyond the Boundaries of Fashion by Lizzie Garrett Mettler. Put it on your coffee table and ponder if Ali McGraw could be considered a tomboy, as they say she is.
I might have taken this ThoughtCatalog article more seriously if it wasn’t called “Why Lipstick Lesbians Have to Keep Coming Out of the Closet.” Lipstick lesbians!? That term makes me cringe.
New York Magazine has a great piece on Jeanette Winterson and Alison Bechdel and how they both write about their mothers in their latest books.
