Morning Brew – Thurs. March 22: Elisha Cuthbert pretends to be a lesbian on “Happy Endings,” Chloe Sevigny on playing MTF in “Hit and Miss”

Good morning!

Word is still out as to if Dana Delany will reprise her role as Katherine on Desperate Housewives before the series finale. TVLine reports they have yet to see her in any of the scripts and time is running out.

If you love Happy Endings like I love Happy Endings (the TV show, perv), then you’ll love this interview with star Elisha Cuthbert about an upcoming episode. I’ll let her explain:

There is one episode coming up where Penny (Casey Wilson) is trying to lie to a girlfriend that comes back from the past, and somehow gets the whole gang involved in this crazy lie that spirals into insanity. Basically, she has gotten me to pretend that I’m a lesbian, in order to keep the lie going. Of course, in Alex fashion, if she’s going to be a lesbian, she wants to go straight to the top, so she decides to be Ellen DeGeneres. So, for a full episode, I get to mimic and pretend to be Ellen DeGeneres, which was so much fun. It was so great to incorporate the physical comedy into it, with the dancing and that kind of stuff. It was outlandishly over-the-top. It was a lot of fun. I think the Ellen episode is going to turn out really great.

Since I’ve seen her Ellen impression, I really can’t wait to see an entire episode devoted to it. It airs next Wednesday night.

Last year we told you about Chloe Sevigny‘s upcoming role in a UK mini-series Hit and Miss as a MTF hitwoman. There’s finally a trailer! (Thanks Pam.)

In an interview with, well, Interview, Chloe discussed playing the character, and how she prepared. An excerpt:

I met with some post-ops and talked with them. They were very open and revealing and honest. Then I just read a lot. I read as many autobiographies as I could. It got a little repetitive. [laughs] I hate saying that. [Books by] April Ashley, Renée Richards, and Jonathan Ames did this compilation called Sexual Metamorphosis, which has chapters from different perspectives, M-to-F, F-to-M. I read a lot about the procedure. What’s most shocking for me is how well these people know themselves. How can you be so sure? Aren’t you always questioning yourself in some way? It’s amazing to be so steadfast, to just say, “I’m going to go through this insane hormonal treatment and then I’m going to have this surgery.”

I have a feeling this series is going to be a little controversial.

Got some extra cash you want to put toward a cool cause? Head over to Kickstarter and support Polkadot ____, “a gender non-binary children’s book series.” Genderqueer social worker Talcott Broadhead explains that they are always being asked to recommend children’s books that are “gender non-conforming or gender-neutral” and there aren’t many on that list. Thus, it’s time to create some!

LP did an interview with Fuse while at SXSW about writing for pop stars and working with Nas.

Check out the new video from Modern Day Escape, a band with a rad out lesbian drummer (Sandra Alva).

If you dig Sandra, you can get a T-shirt with her face on it from Hot Topic.

Ladyhawke has released an album sampler for her upcoming LP Anxiety. Get a taste of things to come!

Queer Seattle duo THEESatisfaction are on the cover of their hometown alt-weekly The Stranger this week and inside they discuss their album, awE naturalE, which is out next week. (Pssst — you can stream it now at NPR!)

Tonight on MTV’s I Just Want My Pants Back, we will all learn what a “binosaur” is. I’m assuming it’s just a cute way of saying “bisexual.”
